Romantic Suspense/Romantic Thriller versus Crime Thriller/Mystery Thriller:

Romantic Suspense is a combination of Romance, Mystery, and Suspense.

It's similar to Crime Thriller and can contain graphic violence and explicit scenes.

There are a few differences though. For example:

In my experience, Romantic Suspense is comparatively lighter and less grim than Crime Thriller. (My experience with Crime Thriller isn't very extensive though, so I can't be absolutely sure about this.)

Also, it's not necessary for a Crime Thriller to have a Romantic subplot, but there is always Romance in Romantic Suspense.

Even when a Crime Thriller has a Romantic subplot, the main focus of the story is on the Mystery. But in a Romantic Suspense, the Romance/Mystery ratio is usually around 60/40 or 50/50 or 40/60.

There is more emphasis on character and relationship development in a Romantic Suspense than in a Crime Thriller. (This is more true for standalone books than series.)

Ahmed Articulate post with some decent recommendations. I’m trying to explore new genres however, I have struggled with this one genre. Hoping that one of these books click with me.

Thank you for the write up.

Thanks @Ahmed I hope you manage to find something you can enjoy from the list :-)

If you wish to read a specific kind of book within this genre then please feel free to ask me for recommendations. I'll try my best to suggest something according to your preferences.

You could also check out the following group for recommendations if you like:

Tall, Dark & Deadly

Also, you mentioned you're trying to explore new genres. Well, a Reading Challenge I recently initiated might help with that. It's designed to motivate people to read four different genres in a single year. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in then please feel free to check it out:

Just thought I'd share :-)

Ramla Zareen Ahmad Hi,

I just wanted to share that I recently liked and voted on the following Goodreads list:

Best Romantic Suspense Series

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/7...

You can check it out if you like. Hopefully you'll find some good recommendations there :-)

Also, I created a Goodreads list titled:

Mystery Thriller Series with Romantic Subplot set in the US

https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/2...

Please do check it out if you get a chance. It's the first GR list I've created—though I liked and voted on some before—and I'd appreciate it a lot if you could help me make it a useful source of recommendations for everyone :-)

You can "like" the list and/or add books to it and/or vote on existing books if you wish. Or you could simply recommend relevant series through your comments. You can even invite your friends to vote on the books if you like.

Thank you :-)
