Bri’s Library 📚 Literally! Also every social media platform has DMs

Laura❄️📚 Agreed 💯 I Iove the community feel of Goodreads taking away DMs will take that away.

Nicole Lewis I’m on the fence about this one Laura! I agree, there are those of us who adore DMing each other to ask pertinent questions re:readership etc. on the flip side, there are folks out there that use this as a Tinder catch-all which is way not cool. But we have learned to adapt and screen. Maybe they can come to a mutual resolution.

Laura❄️📚 I’m slightly introverted so admittedly I don’t use the messaging feature as much as I would like to but I do use to connect with indie authors who have become friends. I agree there a lot of people who do use this like Tinder and not forgetting the scammers.

John Honestly, I have never realized there were DMs even available on here. They’re hidden away on the app! I’d rather they utilized notifications for comment replies…

Laura❄️📚 On the app it’s quite well tucked away, using the website is a completed difference experience.

John I don’t own a computer so have never used the website. For example, responding here, I didn’t receive a notification about your reply, I had to check back to see if you had. I wish they would fix that. But yeah, I had no idea there were DMs here before today haha.

Laura❄️📚 I don’t have a computer either but I use the website on my tablet occasionally, it’s a different experience as the app doesn’t have all the same functionality of the website. I agree that the notifications need improvement, I find the same if I comment on someone’s status or review I don’t get a notification if they reply.

~Jennifer~ I second that!

Angela I agree with you Laura. It's very disappointing news. This platform has people from every corner of the globe and the ability to message friends and have buddy read chats was what made this a more interactive platform. I will be sad to see that option go.

Laura❄️📚 So will I, I’ve tried reviewing on other platforms but Goodreads is the one platform I felt most welcome. I’ve made some lovely friends here and befriended some indie authors that I wouldn’t have been able to if not for the ability to interact via messages.

Marquise Same, this is the best platform out there. And besides, even if we were all skilled in content creation for other sites, who has the time or the energy to spend time on 4-5 sites and follow up with comments? Certainly not me.

Laura❄️📚 I only did a month on Instagram reviewing books before I quit and came back to Goodreads. I’ve had a bad experience with a scammer but for the most part I have felt really safe and welcome here :)

message 14: by Aroona (new)

Aroona Abbas I was confused on this update as well. Does it mean whether friends or strangers, we cannot send DMs to anyone?

Laura❄️📚 Yes group mods can send messages to group members but I wouldn’t be able to message you or vice versa.

message 16: by Anna (new)

Anna I think it's gonna be nice without the DM's tbh. The shear amount of people who DM's me like it's Tinder or something is ridiculous. I'm not here to be hit on.

Laura❄️📚 I think there are definitely pro’s and con’s of getting rid of DMs, I do agree with you it will be nice to not have the constant stream of DMs from people trying to chat me up.
