Thank you for such a thorough and constructive review Owen! Will definitely be avoiding this book as it does not seem to present any valuable new insight into Anne’s story or historiography and the treatment of female historians by the author is simply appalling.

Thanks for such a comprehensive review. I was on the fence about getting this one given Mayhew’s attitude on social media towards other historians but you’ve now just confirmed this is not a book I want to read.

Hi Owen! Thank you for this review. I have since removed this book from my “wish list” and am quite frankly disgusted and saddened by such awful comments found in this work. Being a frequent visitor to Hever as you know, I have seen first hand the hard work and dedication yourself and the team have put into the extensive research you and undertaken. I am also someone incredibly familiar with the historiography of Anne Boleyn and find the lack of acknowledgment to those who have come before him to be bother bad academic and historical practice. Good luck with all future work on this time period and I cannot wait to see what that brings! Ayse!

This review was written in regard to a preview copy that the publishers CLEARLY asked people NOT to post a review on; it was withdrawn and reviewers were asked to wait, as the preview copy lacked full references. Owen Emmerson chose to publish his review regardless, out of pure spite and because I called out his friends on their Twitter bullying. He then scored cheap points by pointing out the lack of references, citations, etc, whilst knowing full well what he'd done. What a spiteful, two-faced coward. The facade he presents online is so far from the aggravation my partner and I have had to endure over the past several years as to be laughable. One day, I fear he and his cronies will attack someone who takes it a whole lot worse than I did. Still, the police were involved and continue to hold a record of his doings; any more fake reviews, hate speech or attacks on me on here or on Reddit will mean contacting them again.
