THIS. I approached re-reading it with the same vague sensation trailed along from youth (I actually WEPT the first time I read it, I’m mortified to recall) and was DISMAYED to say the least, in all the ways that you have pinned so neatly here, when I looked at it without the old scales upon the eyes. Ew. Very very ew.
I can’t overstate how relieved I am to hear that another person could have been so deluded.
