Lance The Dodgers are the first repeat champs in 25 years, just had an all time classic World Series, so now starts the dreaded off season.

message 2: by Brina (new)

Brina I think it might be a slow off season. Front offices don’t want to have contracts on the books due to pending CBA and lockout after next season. Cubs made a splash today and now pitching is in shambles. I don’t want to think about the CBA as it’s a year away. So let the fun begin.

You may see a lot of one-year contracts, or contracts with numerous opt-outs in them. Some teams are going to be more active than others but then that is usually the case. Not sure how the lack of a CBA is going to affect the trade market.

message 4: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry Surprise, surprise. Shane Bieber has opted to stay with the Blue Jays for next season. It was widely expected he would opt out of his contract. He must have liked what he saw.

message 5: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry i hear that Kyle Tucker is looking at a deal worth about $300 million. It is expected the Cubs will let him walk at that price. In fact there are likely no more than a handful of teams that will be interested.

Peggyzbooksnmusic Padres have finally hired their new manager, former relief pitcher Craig Stammen. 3 year contract. Somewhat of a surprise. Although he did pitch for Pads 2017-2022 so he played with Machado, Tatis jr, & Musgrove. And according to MLB he was assistant on the coaching staff and sat in with the front office during trade discussions which I wasnt aware. Good luck Stammen!

C. John Kerry Jorge Polanco has declined his option with the Seattle Mariners. This was not unexpected.

message 8: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry Trump has pardoned Darryl Strawberry over his 1995 tax evasion conviction.

message 9: by Harold (new)

Harold Kasselman We now know why Alex Vesia missed the postseason. It was a terrible personal tragedy. https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/breaking...

Maybe he’ll come back to Minnesota if he doesn’t get any offers…

C. John Kerry The following is from today's Morning Brew newsletter.

Prince Harry apologized to Canada—whose head of state is King Charles III, Harry’s dad—after he and Meghan Markle wore Los Angeles Dodgers hats to Game 4 of the World Series against the Toronto Blue Jays. Both teams use the same colors, so maybe he just got confused.

I wasn't surprised they wore Dodgers caps. After all that is where they are living these days.

C. John Kerry Another baseball reference in one of my current affairs newsletters

For a leader who has built his brand on calling out Liberal spending, tabling a budget with a $78-billion deficit is the political equivalent of pitching a strike straight down the middle to Dodger slugger Shohei Ohtani.

message 13: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry I see another Japanese ballplayer has been posted, a fielder this time. Let's see where he ends up. California I am betting.

C. John Kerry An item from CNN's 5 Good Things newsletter.

Baseball is the greatest sport. I present the following story as proof!

Have you heard of the US Blind Baseball Association, a league for legally blind athletes who love the game? It's come up with an ingenious way to make baseball accessible: A player holds their own ball and tosses it up to hit. The balls contain several chimes so players can always hear them, and the bases make beeping noises to guide them in. Even without vision, these players are smacking the ball deep into the outfield and sprinting around the diamond.

“To be on a baseball field, a place that has brought me nothing but joy — it’s like heaven,” said Zach Ship, the “home run king” of his team. Ship unexpectedly lost his vision two years ago, and discovering blind baseball has buoyed him.

John; Thanks so much for posting this! So heartwarming that baseball can bring joy to those who can not see:)

Will it ever end? I doubt it. I note that with prop betting there is a certain degree of having to have the umpire call the pitch the way you want it called, and the batter to co-operate to a degree.

message 19: by Lance (new)

Lance Nick Kurtz is AL Rookie of the Year…got that one right.

message 20: by Lance (new)

Lance Drake Baldwin is NL Rookie of the Year. Sorry, Brina, was pulling for Horton.

message 21: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry Another article from The Infinite Baseball Card Set. This one seems apropos given what has been in the new lately concerning a couple of Cleveland players.

C. John Kerry Jim Hicks is the subject of the Card Corner.

message 23: by Brina (new)

Brina Um Baldwin was 0-5 vs Horton this year. No Platinum gloves for Cubs either. I’ve decided baseball just doesn’t like them. So they have to go out and win the whole thing with or without the owner’s support.

message 24: by Lance (new)

Lance This has to be fake news - just got an update that Bo Bichette has signed with the Dodgers. Really? I know that LA is interested and would have him switch positions with Betts now established at SS, but what a sorry way to try to invite clicks.

message 25: by Brina (new)

Brina I checked and it’s fake. It’s like shades of Jason Giambi to the Yankees and I wouldn’t put it past the dodgers to pull something like that.

C. John Kerry Brina wrote: "I checked and it’s fake. It’s like shades of Jason Giambi to the Yankees and I wouldn’t put it past the dodgers to pull something like that."

I remember a time when we didn't have to worry about fake news. As Dylan said 'the times they are a-changing' (at least I think it was Dylan, Bob not Thomas).

message 27: by Brina (new)

Brina Although I did see that teams are looking at Bichette to play 2nd or 3rd. That should be interesting. And yes I hate fake news and it’s everywhere.

message 28: by Lance (new)

Lance Pat Murphy and Steven Vogt win Manager of the Year. Agree with Murphy, but in the AL, both Dan Wilson and John Schneider deserved it more than Vogt.

message 29: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry Kyle Hendricks has announced his retirement.

message 30: by Brina (new)

Brina He essentially retired last year in his last home start. It was beautiful. This year, not so good. Really hope he comes back as a roving pitching coach. There’s a reason that he’s the Professor.

message 31: by Harold (new)

Harold Kasselman Lance wrote: "Pat Murphy and Steven Vogt win Manager of the Year. Agree with Murphy, but in the AL, both Dan Wilson and John Schneider deserved it more than Vogt."

I disagree. The Guardians were 15 games back of the Tigers and beat them at the finish line. They traded Shane Bieber away, and they lost two key pitchers to a betting scandal in Clase, maybe the best closer in baseball, and Ortiz a starter.

Peggyzbooksnmusic MLB just posted & I received email from Padres: Seidler family is considering selling Padres.

message 33: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry This could get interesting. Edwin Diaz is a free agent and the Mets could really use him back. However David Stearns does not like to spend mucho money on relievers. Since there are a number of teams that may be willing to meet his asking price, the Blue Jays possibly among them, Stearns is either going to have to get out of his comfort zone or watch Diaz walk, and then suffer the wrath of Mets fans, especially if they lose Alonso as well.

message 34: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry MLB has an Entertainer of the Year award I see. What does that entail I wonder. I do see that Vlad Jr. won it so that isn't too bad. Wonder how you factor that one into the question is a player HOF worthy.

message 35: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry Apparently the Dodgers are hoping that their Japanese stars do not participate in the upcoming World Baseball Classic. Not sure if they are actively discouraging them from doing so but I believe if asked they tell them they would prefer the players don't.

message 36: by Brina (new)

Brina They can’t force them to do anything but at least then the US has a chance to win.

message 37: by Lance (last edited Nov 16, 2025 09:09AM) (new)

Lance Just the Japanese players or all their players? When the WBC started 20 years ago, MLB clubs weren’t happy about their players participating. Now, that’s mostly turned - but seeing this, I guess not everyone is onboard

Lance Harold wrote: "Lance wrote: "Pat Murphy and Steven Vogt win Manager of the Year. Agree with Murphy, but in the AL, both Dan Wilson and John Schneider deserved it more than Vogt."

I felt that the Guardians comeback was more due to the Tigers’ awful play down the stretch more than any great accomplishments by Cleveland.

message 39: by Lance (new)

Lance Lots of chatter on Twins sites that Buxton may waive his no-trade clause if the team continues to dump players. Specifically, if they trade either Pablo Lopez, Joe Ryan or both, as many rumors are going around that this will happen.

message 40: by Harold (new)

Harold Kasselman Lots of rumors about the Phillies and Buxton.

message 41: by Brina (new)

Brina I heard Braves and Buxton because he’s from Atlanta area. I’ve also heard way too many Cubs and Ryan rumors. I’ll believe rumors when they happen.

message 42: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry If nothing else the off-season is a great time for rumours. Seems to me there is a song about rumours, though not this type, more the malevolent type. Timex Social Club is the artist I believe.

message 43: by Lance (new)

Lance Yes, that’s correct. It’s in my rotation on my music streaming service.

message 44: by Brina (new)

Brina Off-season drama is a sport in itself. I try to ignore it. My son tells me to stay off of Cubs fan sites because it’s bad for my mental health. The comments to the players are brutal and I sometimes wish that the players see the comments in order to shut down the fans. It’s never happened but I wish it did. Anyway, rumors. Every day a new player is signing somewhere else. But there has been one signing- Naylor back to Mariners for 5 years. Maybe that’s hope that he CBA/lockdown won’t be as bad as originally predicted.

message 45: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry It seems the Yankees have resigned Ryan Yarbrough to a one-year contract with a base salary of $2.5 million. There are also performance bonuses.

message 46: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry Card Corner is Barry Foote.

message 47: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry The Mets have DFA'ed Frankie Montas. He was going to be out for the 2026 season anyway and his contract expires when the season ends. What this does is it clears a roster spot before the Rule Five draft.

message 48: by C. John (new)

C. John Kerry I see the HOF ballot is out. That should give us something to talk about at least.

message 49: by Harold (new)

Harold Kasselman there are some Gary surprising players who accepted the 22 million qualifying offer; Trent Grisham, Imanaga, Gleyber Torres, and Brandon Woodruff

message 50: by C. John (last edited Nov 18, 2025 04:46PM) (new)

C. John Kerry If someone offered me that sum of money I'd take it, but then my tastes aren't extravagant.
