Still enjoying your reviews. Best wishes for the New Year, P.E.!
Thank you Gary, looking forward to study your future chess games, reading fiction and recommendations from you. May you enjoy a (positively) game-changing New Year 2026 if you wish so!
Thank you P.E. for this interesting retrospective and your "ausgefallene Rezensionen" (I can't find any better phrase!) and citations from the books you are reading. (Kropotkin, etc)
Nedeleg laouen ha Bloavez mat 2026!
Way to go P.E. you made some tough choices this year and reached a new book-reading milestone, yay! I'm proud of you :-) You're one of the good guys, I wish there were more people like you in the world. Keep up the good work. Happy 2026 to you!
@Claudia: My warmest thanks go to you for your generous appreciation of my reading notes and your rewarding reviews on Zola and co.! I am about one book away from reading Le Ventre de Paris now, thanks for your constantly inspiring observations, Claudia! Trugarez, nedeleg laouen, bloavezh mat ha yec'hed vat!
@Macqueron: Same goes for you! Never stop exploring at will :) Your forrays are as varied as they are dangerously inspiring ;) A most happy year 2026 to you, bookwise and otherwise!
@Ulysse: Thanks for your visit Ulysse ;) Nothing beats your review-poems, they have the knack of going to the point, cutting through out-of-place reverence and offering unusual vistas while elliciting irrepressible jollity in your reader :) I can't wait to read more of them! A markedly Joyful Year 2026! Shine on You Crazy Diamond! as a legendary band said to one of their members! ;)
Good luck with your changes and choices made in 2025, P.E. And thank you for your reviews, interest and comments.
A colourful reading year! Dark days are afoot all around, it seems, but in the end, there is always the retreat of art and books. Bonne année!
Thank you, Peter! May you begin 2026 with a superb trip to Spain, paving the way for more life-changing discoveries. Happy new year 2026 in advance!
@Jay: It has been colourful indeed in this regard, thankfully. I would like 2026 to be more colourful outside of this retreat too! May you enjoy a great year 2026 in both regards, Jay!
Such a busy year, I am surprised that you found any time for reading! Thank you for all your multi-media reviews and wishing you a new year full of inspiring, intriguing books
@Jan-Maat : It has been an eventful year indeed+ Not to mention the 34-hour-a-week gig at the airport haha! I appreciate your kind and fitting wishes! May your path cross many a thought-inducing book, be it in English, French, German, Flemish or Dutch! ;) Happy new year 2026!
Happy to have recently made your acquaintance here. I've enjoyed the reviews and I also appreciate link to an article on rogue-lite games -- I enjoy those kind of games as well.
How wonderful to read about your year, Pierre-E. And what a great and lovely surprise that you met Ilse and Jan-M in person! And, then, you also had your holiday in Japan! What a great year you had!
Yes, lets cross a thousands fingers that the situation in the world will improve dramatically!
A very good New Year’s Eve and a totally wonderful New Year, my dear Pierre-E!
@path: Thanks for paying a visit, path! Your enjoyment goes both ways, I am curious to read about your reading impressions, be they within or without the scope of classics! What kind of rogue-lite games do you enjoy the most? Just being curious :) A wonderful year 2026 to you!
@Hanneke: I am flattered dear Hanneke! Extraordinary occurrence, isn't it! This year has been incredibly eventful, I can hardly acknowledge how much, even after this attempt at summing up and mapping out the summits. I will readily add my own set of crossed fingers to the thousands!... May you enjoy a heart-warming New Year's Eve, heralding a fabulous year 2026!
Dearest P-E, savouring your superlative year a second time from the reading café in our local library paradise, I heartily wish you a very happy 2026, filled with fabulous books and events, like this year was! Thank you so much for giving us the chance to meet you this year, your generous and sparkling company and conversation made the visit of Nantes even more wonderful and will stay in my memory (happily eclipsing the inconvenience of my inability to walk which I had already forgotten :). Sharing your heartfelt wishes for peace in the world, until we meet again here or elsewhere, wishing you all the best!
@Ilse: Thank you so much for the part you played in my version of the year 2025! I greatly enjoyed our literary conversations about Zola, travelling, Northern Europe architecture, European politics, the café life in Brussels and the neighbourhood! I wish we will have occasions for more exchanges like that this year! Visibly, the USA could not wait attacking Venezuela and capturing their president by themselves, and we are not even a week in. Brave new world... Then, right away, let's do our best and not buy any tall story or carefully spun narrative about this matter and others this one may pave the way for. I feel like it is the very least we can do about it.
