Gertie First, If you're an author fresh to the group, you don't want to miss the thread on how to promote in the group.

A lot of authors join the group and are eager to tell everyone about their books, so tell us here!

Also, feel free to make a new topic just for your book if you'd like, in the Authors/Publishers/Bloggers section.

Been with us for a while and have a new book to share? There's a thread for that!

R.E. McDermott I've been a GR author quite a while, but only started writing in the PA genre last year and just joined this group a week or so ago. I'm always also a bit reticent about mentioning my own work on GR, but as this seems the appropriate venue, here goes;

In the better late than never department, my first PA book Under a Tell-Tale Sky: Disruption - Book 1 was released in September 2015. It's been fairly well received (considering it's a complete genre-hop for me) with +200 Amazon reviews while maintaining an average of 4.7 stars. The sequel (Push Back) will be out within two months.

FYI, I'm running a Kindle Countdown Deal (unfortunately in the US and UK only) between May 14-20, 2016, during which time the book will be offered from between $0.99 and $2.99 (regular price $4.99).

Thanks for considering my work.

Best

Kristen Morie-Osisek Hello everyone,

I recently published my first novel, The Sixth Event.

The Sixth Event by Kristen Morie-Osisek

During Raquel's first semester of college, she witnesses the end of the world, only to wake up in her old room at her parents' house two years in the past. Even worse, it seems she's the only one who remembers—until Chris Lyley, a boy Raquel always thought was a loser, tells her he remembers the catastrophe too.

Before long, they both discover new abilities. They're able to understand any language and teleport through time and space. If Raquel and Chris can figure out what caused the end of their world, maybe they can stop it.

I'll be looking into the read for reviews section. I hope people give it a chance and enjoy!

Anthony Puyo Hello everyone! I'm new to the scene and trying to get the word out for my book Anthony Puyo's The Compelled. Here's the link for the book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FQI3HVO And here's the blurb:

Some thought it was a virus, but no one after the first day had been reported to have gotten it, nor did the ones who were infected die off on their own. And when their blood was tested--it only added to the mystery. Religious groups believed it to be a mass possession; something from a dark world we can't see with our bare eyes, hosting onto the weak in spirit. But as time passed, we saw it was none of those things. Trapped in a world where violence supersedes compassion, and death is the fruit of man's labor; Craig Bainy desperately searches for his family. But when communication is lost from a crippled government, and a band of rogue soldiers comes into town lead by the infamous Captain Robert Hawks; the worst threat may not be the infected after all . . . Anthony Puyo's The Compelled, brings a unique perspective and style to a fan favorite genre. It walks a path that's not set in stone by exploring the depths of humanity through the lives of survivors in a very bleak moment in time. It's built to rise like the side of a pyramid; steadily getting better with every chapter till it reaches its final destination with a stellar climax.

I do have a short story issue out too, and I have spin-off to The Compelled coming out November 3. All my books are on Kindle Unlimited. Thank you for reading and thank you for your support!

Michael Sellars Hello all.

I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce my debut novel, Hyenas

Hyenas by Michael Sellars

I'd be delighted if you'd be so kind as to take the time to give it a try. And honest feedback is always welcome.

Blurb:

Five months ago, the apocalyptic ‘Jolt’ turned the majority of humankind into the atavistic savages Jay Garvey calls ‘Hyenas’ on account of their insane, shrieking laughter. A terrified Jay is tempted from his bolthole in a Liverpool book shop when he learns the whereabouts of the only boat that hasn’t been scuttled by the deranged militia leader known as Sergeant Pepper. As a brutal winter closes in, Jay, and the small band of survivors he collects along the way, must avoid death and capture to take advantage of this single, slim window of escape.

Kirkus Review:

Sellars evokes both classic literature and classic horror in this post-apocalyptic debut novel.

Five weeks after the collapse of civilization, Jay Garvey doesn’t know if he’s waiting out the end of days or just waiting for his own end. Cowering in an abandoned bookstore and hiding from the zombielike maniacs he calls hyenas, he doesn’t have much to hope for. But an encounter with another survivor opens up a world of new possibilities, starting with a plan to escape the decaying streets of Liverpool by boat.

But what at first seems to be a run-of-the mill zombie scenario, somewhere between the films Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later, masks a dynamic portrait of literature and disability. Before the Jolt, as Jay calls it, he and the other survivors had some form of speech or literacy impediment, and while everyone else became ravenous monsters, the survivors found that, for the first time in their lives, they could read. Meanwhile, the hyenas, insensate, paw at and even eat pages from books and magazines. Unlike in a traditional zombie novel, the hyenas aren’t dead per se, but their spite and anguish call into question what life really is in the absence of words. “Language left,” the prologue reads, and there’s a powerful sadness in those words—and even in the hyenas’ ghastly, horrifying laughter—that seldom gets its due in post-apocalyptic fiction.

Of course, it’s not all William Blake and Northrop Frye, and fans of the adrenaline and gore of more traditional post-apocalyptic zombie fare will find themselves right at home here. The hyenas embody a genuinely frightening take on those familiar themes, and they’re backed up by a colorful cast of characters and a host of other threats, including a Beatles-obsessed militia leader referred to as Sgt. Pepper. While the novel lacks some of the expansive, atmospheric descriptions that are a hallmark of post-apocalyptic stories, the entertaining quality of the subject matter and the depth of the underlying themes create a vivid world.

The start of an exhilarating new series and a stirring addition to the zombie canon.

A.K. Alliss Hi All,

Frame by A.K. Alliss

my forthcoming novel, Frame, will be published by Atlas Productions Books on February 1st 2017. Frame is a speculative fiction / dystopian thriller set five years from now. In it, a widowed content producer for a social media celebrity discovers that her client may be involved with a terrorist organisation and indirectly responsible for her husband's death. She has access to an artificially constructed copy of her husband's personality and after being trapped for so long in a continual cycle of grief with it, she makes the decision to find out the level of her client's culpability. I was prompted to write the book because, at times, I feel as if we are already living in a dystopian future.
After a boozy late night conversation with my friend's girlfriend about the nature of celebrity, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Social media, our perception of what makes people popular, terrorists owning twitter accounts and using them as recruitment tools. It all came together in a clash of ideas and the result was the book.
I love fiction that feels present but is also slightly ahead, I also thrive on detective novels so I wondered if there was a way to combine the gritty realism and characterisation of James Ellroy's novels with the punk sensibility and cool austerity of William Gibson's work.
I hope you will take a moment to read it and let me know what you think?

DESCRIPTION
The Alliance lays the groundwork for a 6-volume science fiction series that takes Humanity on a thrilling journey from dystopia to utopia, from an Earth occupied by other species of the Milky Way to interstellar travel and space colonization, to galactic warfare and head-to-head encounters with the cosmos's greatest threats.

Earth has been invaded and mankind has been pushed towards extinction by the ambitious conquest of an alien civilization, the Rabast, led by the oppressor Vadist.

Help comes with the arrival of an ambiguous ally from the Pleiades star cluster. The last colony of Pleodians have formed an elaborate plan to save Earth, but the Alliance comes at a price... the Humans will have to share their planet. Nearing extinction, do they have a choice?

The Alliance must rely on two Humans who possess alien artifacts of seemingly infinite energy: Ethan Alexander Colt is a resistance fighter expected to make the ultimate sacrifice; the other is the tormented Captain Donovan Ford, who must conquer his ghosts and embrace his destiny as a soldier.

For the plan to work, it requires a collection of War Engines, the Conduits, ancient combat suits used by the infamous Scientists. But Humans were designed with flaws, and Ethan and Donovan are no different. Will they see beyond their own aspirations and fight for the greater good? Or will they threaten the endurance of the Alliance and stability of the cosmos?

He is imprisoned to the will of a malevolent spirit...limping toward atonement through a chain of uncountable bloody deeds, and across many millennia. The only thing that keeps him going is the promise of freedom...not for himself, but for a love that he has destroyed.

His ages-long road has led him to the distant future, to the planet's very last settlement of humanity. There, with one final, tired massacre, he aims to end the world.

He will find the last remnant of civilization unwilling to enter the void so easily. He will also find that the world has one final, soul-stirring revelation yet left for him.

Brian Basham I have a couple of things out right now. First is a collection of 3 short stories that lead up to my first novel titled: Virtual Wars: Booting Up
Then I have my first novel titled:
Initialization

The Virtual Wars system is a virtual reality simulation that allows states to war with each other without killing anyone or damaging property. Accidents do happen though.

The novel follows Miri who wants to play in the Virtual Wars for an Academy, if his mom will let him. Along the way he meets Kitsie, an outlaw on the run, and Hannah who brags about her ninja/spy skills. Revelations turn Miri's world upside down forcing him to choose between a life in fear or life as a fugitive.

Yes, I read the photo comment the other night when I created my post. ST Campitelli Hi all,

I've been a bit of a lurker here for a few months and feel I'd like to tell you about my book, The Fall. It's a PA novel set in 2052 Melbourne, Australia, and if you haven't yet read much Australian post-apoc stuff, then this may just be the book for you!

Blurb:
Melbourne, 2052, two years since The Fall.

A wave of infection, the Jackson Virus, has swept the world, leaving in its wake a terrifying apocalyptic wasteland populated by wild cleanskin survivor groups and the ravenous, infected night predators – the jacks. In this nightmare landscape, one of the last remaining sanctuaries is Kulin Wallcom, a community enclosed by a 10-metre wall patrolled by what’s left of the military. The wallcoms are the last remaining bastions of defence and security in a world gone over the edge.

But the people of Kulin can’t stay behind their wall forever.

Recovery expert, John Bradley, is part of a major operation into the wasteland looking to not only ensure the survival of Kulin by bringing back critical supplies from the abandoned Southstone Supermall, but, more crucially, to also locate and extract the only person left who may be able to reverse the tide of infection.

However, the mission faces danger at every turn. It seems to be compromised from the inside, Southstone is thought to be an impossible target overrun with infected, and wasteland survivor bands, led by the psychopathic wasteland leader, the Headhunter, are bent on making sure the operation has to fight each step of the way to get back to the wallcom before nightfall.

Because that’s when the jacks come out.

And they will find you.

Welcome to the world of The Fall.

I'd love it if you'd check it out!

Miles Hudson Having published a whole bunch of physics textbooks over the years, my first futuristic fiction novel has been accepted for publication by a publisher. Woohoo!

2089 is set in the future (can you guess when?) and is about a gently post-apocalyptic society which has brain-bugging surveillance of the whole population. Everything you see and hear is intercepted and published on the internet so there can be no secrets. Jack Smith is one of the surveillance monitors. He blows up the eavesdropping computers and goes on the run across climate-changed England. So there’s loads of questions about how society should be organised, surveillance vs security, over dependence on technology, plus a backstory in which the current capitalist, fake news politics and corporate kleptocracy leads to a global catastrophe of local civil wars. But can Jack avoid the posse chasing him long enough to change the world for the better? And what would be better?

There's more detail, including a video of me (!) explaining all about it at the Unbound website. Have a look at unbound.com/books/2089

And I've started a blog which, over the next few weeks, will delve into some of the themes that the novel touches on. That's at www.blogofthefuture.com

In the end, the big question is have they created a utopia or a dystopia?

I've always enjoyed writing - but ended up in teaching for a number of reasons. Now I've started merging both interests.

I grew up with all the classics by Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, Aldous Huxley.... and in high-school we absolutely loved watching sci-fi movies with our astronomy teacher.... and it just went on from there.

I'm now looking at teaching social science fiction/political philosophy online and have written a young-adult book with this purpose in mind.

I'm always interested in exploring the latest in the genre, and look forward to some interesting conversations with you all!

Smack-dab, in the Middle of Nowhere A post-apocalyptic comedy by Duncan P. Pacey

"Smack-dab, in the Middle of Nowhere" is a post-apocalyptic comedy novel about a grumpy bar owner desperately trying to save her home and livelihood from the perils of the Waste - perils like bandits, tax, and...tourism?

Think Terry Pratchett meets "Fallout", but not as good as either.

J.D. Wisgo Hello everyone! I'm new to GoodReads and this group. This seems like a great community and place to learn about great books!

I am a translator of Japanese fiction and I recently translated and published a classic SF dystopian tale which has, until now, not been available in English.

If you are into dystopian literature, please consider giving it a look.

Thanks!

Becca Hi all,

I've been a member for quite some years, but I've only recently begun putting my writings out there. I'm not sure if I should post here; mine isn't a finished novel - it's the diary of a normal English girl and her struggle to survive after nuclear war. I've made a website for myself, and was hoping some of you would consider swinging round to have a look:

https://isabelrose86.wixsite.com/writ...

I guess like all other authors, what I'm really looking for is both feedback and maybe even a few people to help brainstorm... my family are not really readers, and their "it's great"s can't really be trusted. Thanks for reading.

Becca.

Jared Bernard Killing Juggernaut by Jared Bernard
Armed with a mountain of scientific evidence and societal trends, Killing Juggernaut predicts a dire yet probable future. Three character's fates are linked by the Mission for Humanity, the last-ditch effort to save humankind from the environmental destruction on Earth. This novel is like a mix between Margaret Atwood's Oryx and Crake, Kafka's The Trial, Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath, Jared Diamond's Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed, and The Sixth Extinction: An Unnatural History. With models formed with current science and sociology, this novel plunges the reader into the 22nd and 23rd centuries and looks back to see what went wrong.

"Mournful, prophetic power." -- Kirkus Reviews

"This could very well be the future of our planet... it is incredibly realistic." -- ReaderViews.com

♑︎♑︎♑︎ ♑︎♑︎♑︎ Hi everyone--I just joined and I'm completely fascinated by this group, that so many of you are writers! Wonderful!

The Book of Dog is a humorous apocalyptic fantasy in which six unlikely women battle an apocalyptic Beast, with some surprising outcomes. The novel loosely follows events in the Book of Revelation. It has more of a Terry Pratchett feel rather than a "Damian" feel. Also if you have read Mort(e), I think it's fair to say my novel is something like Robert Repino's novel in tone.

Here is a link to the novel's Kirkus review--it is a good summary of what you can expect and it will give you an idea if it's something you'd enjoy:

https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-re...

The novel isn't going to be published until Sept 6 2018, but I have a GR giveaway starting for the paperback "advance review copy" tomorrow. I'll post a link here if I figure out how.

Also the ebook version of the 'advance review copy' is available on NetGalley, or, you can request a copy from my website at http://larkbenobi.com.

Thank you!

R.L. Bull I've just published my first book- an apocolyptic/horror fiction novel about the 2nd coming of the apocolypse.

The link and description is below!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/After-R-L-Bu...

The apocalypse has already happened.

Humanity fought, and won, but paid a heavy price.

No one expected it to happen again.

A brutal virus is spreading across the divided country- it's cause unknown. All hope seems to lie in the capital- Carrion City- the last standing defence against an invisible plague.

But as survivors flock to the city walls, it seems that not everyone has chosen the same side.

Not everyone wants humanity to survive this time.

With humanity teetering on the edge of extinction, a group of strangers must band together to uncover the truth and fight for the very survival of their species.
