We are in 2026: do you think the suffragettes’ dream has finally been realized, or are we still facing a form of gender equality that is more proclaimed than truly lived? > Likes and Comments

M. Alexandra Nesci Feminism has done an essential job. I probably wouldn’t even be able to use this device I’m holding in my hand to write if it weren’t for the struggles carried out by our sisters.
This makes me reflect on how feminism has not only sought to protect human dignity, but also to give us back the gift of being able to dream.
It is enough to think that, in previous centuries, women were not even allowed to read or write.

What do you think?💘

Gary Gocek For the most part, Western first-world societies have politically proclaimed gender equality, and that's a good thing. In practice, society depends on women pausing their lives to reproduce. There remain a lot of cultural pressures. There is a lot of violence against women and children.

Dr. Jasmine Good morning Alexandra/Gary,

It is shocking how many inequalities still exist, whilst it is equally wrong that many women try to be "the same as men", even if its clearly to their disadvantage.

I wonder if those men who try to suppress women are fuelled by fear- for a woman might be a potential threat to their ego?

“Once made equal to man, woman becomes his superior.”
-Socrates

On the other hand, many women seem to be misguided when demanding they must work in, for instance, heavy physical job environments:

"The worst form of equality is to try to make unequal things equal’’.
-Aristotle

Physically, we are not as strong as men- we have lower level of calcium in our bones, and lower level of growth hormone in our blood, for instance; our strengths are different- being a source of love and compassion is one of them:

‘‘Man can never be woman’s equal in the spirit of selfless service with which nature has endowed her’’.
-Mahatma Gandhi

I love being a woman! :)

Jasmine

M. Alexandra Nesci Dear Gary and Jasmine, I find myself in agreement. The entire world is teetering amid many social struggles. The latest news coming from Venezuela leaves me deeply unsettled. I wonder whether there will ever be an end to this blind supremacy that drives human beings to continually exert power and control over others
