Lovely review, Jeanne. For sure, it is a wonderful story. May I take the opportunity to wish you a very good New Year! Health and happiness, dear Jeanne! And lots of good books to read!
Thank you, Daniel!
One aspect of this book that I liked less (due to being so familiar with the televised versions) was the portrait of Chief Inspector Japp, who, in the book, is "a little, sharp, dark, ferret-faced man", quite unlike the tall, pleasant-faced actor on television. But, heigh-ho, one substitutes!
Chris wrote: "Terrific review. I thought this was a masterful work of Christie's."
Thanks, Chris. I'm glad that we agree on that!
I didn't know this was the first book and written so young, Jeanne. If I ever revisit Christie, I'll start here—and try to ignore the overdone clues:-)
Thanks for reading and commenting, Fionnuala. I'm on the last one that I've borrowed from my granddaughter ("And Then There Were None") which is very creepy, so far, and maybe no Poirot (yet, anyway) to rescue them all! I have been given or lent a number of books recently and now is the time to just enjoy them before getting back to more serious reading.
