Alan In this thread you can discuss the books you're reading/have finished in 2026.

Char I preordered that one, Erin. Still haven't started it yet!!

I am about halfway through a Swedish crime novel: The Glass Man and I'm still reading The Essential Horror Stories by Joe Lansdale. The Essential Horror of Joe R. Lansdale
I am almost done listening to The Remaking by Clay McLeod Chapman.

I got it for Christmas, I can't wait to dive into it!

message 5: by Randy (new)

Randy Money Currently about 100 pages into Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward, my Gothic novel read for International Gothic Reading Month according to The Society for the Study of the American Gothic: https://americangothicsociety.com/int...

message 6: by Sally (new)

Sally I read The End..... about a month ago, and read the Stand many years ago, when it came out. I thought almost all of the stories in The End....were just great, and brought me backto how immersed I was in the characters of The Stand. The End... also introduced me to a bunch of writers that were totally new to me.

message 8: by Naz (new)

Naz I just finished Only the Devil is Here by Stephen Michell and for a book I randomly decided to read from the library it was great! And kinda wholesome for horror fantasy at times. It’s one I defo need to get a copy for my shelf too.

message 9: by Char (new)

Char I just finished a Swedish crime novel: The Glass Man (Asker, #2) by Anders de la Motte . This is the second in a series, and even though I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first, it was still very good.

I'm about to start a cosmic horror novella: The Bledbrooke Works by John F. Leonard and then I'll be starting our second group read.

message 10: by Monica (new)

Monica Go I'm still reading Hit Parade of Tears by Izumi Suzuki and also started Devil's Knot The True Story of the West Memphis Three (Justice Knot, #1) by Mara Leveritt

I have The Devil's Knot sitting on my shelf! I definitely need to get to that one.

I also recently finished The Long Walk The Long Walk by Richard Bachman . Now I can finally watch the movie!

message 13: by Erin (new)

Erin The Long Walk is a King favorite of mine. I can't wait to watch the movie.

message 14: by Char (last edited Jan 14, 2026 05:29AM) (new)

Char Yesterday, I finished my reread of Revival via audio. I think this book has the best King ending out of all of his books.
I loved the The Long Walk too!
Currently I'm reading our group read: By the Light of Dead Stars and I'm listening to Phil Fracassi's Gothic by Philip Fracassi for International Gothic Reading Month.

message 15: by Monica (new)

Monica Go I also started a re read of Gone to see the river man which I'm enjoying more than the first time.

message 16: by Char (new)

Char I have that Triana right next to my reclinder. It's been sitting there for over a year and I still haven't read it. :(

message 17: by Sjgomzi (new)

Sjgomzi Just finished Fever House by Keith Rosson and Maeve Fly by C.J. Leede. Loved them both! My 1st Rosson and now I want to read them all.

message 18: by WendyB (new)

WendyB Reading It Was Her House First
The story is surprisingly good but I do have one bone to pick about the grammar. Several times it's written "Me and Kate" and it should be "Kate and I". Just my own little annoyance.

Monica Go Char wrote: "I have that Triana right next to my reclinder. It's been sitting there for over a year and I still haven't read it. :("

You should read it as soon as you can. It's so good.

Monica Go Sjgomzi wrote: "Just finished Fever House by Keith Rosson and Maeve Fly by C.J. Leede. Loved them both! My 1st Rosson and now I want to read them all."

Love Maeve Fly. I want to re read it soon.

message 21: by SinsandScares (new)

SinsandScares Recently finished Cabin Black and it is fantastic for anyone who loves cabin in the woods horror or the Evil Dead movies. Plus it's a shorter read at just under 160 pages!
Cabin Black by Dan Shrader

message 22: by Robert (new)

Robert Mingee Just getting started with When the Wolf Comes Home after hearing so many good things about it, and finding out that Nat Cassidy will be at an event I'm attending at the end of Feb. So will CJ Leede, so I need to put Maeve Fly high in the stack as well! :-)

I resisted Gone to See the River Man for quite a while, because my tastes have migrated away from extreme horror. But the thing is, while there are extreme elements to the book, I'm not sure I'd call it extreme horror. I admit I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would.

message 23: by Ninnisha|Roberta (last edited 13 hours, 16 min ago) (new)

Ninnisha|Roberta I've been very slow this year, I'm still reading Orakel from Thomas Olde Heuvelt Orakel (Robert Grim #2) by Thomas Olde Heuvelt since the start of December.

edit/update: I didn't love it, certainly the least good novel from this author I've ever read.

message 24: by WendyB (new)

WendyB Finished It Was Her House First
Had a nice twist on the haunted house theme

Monica Go Robert wrote: "Just getting started with When the Wolf Comes Home after hearing so many good things about it, and finding out that Nat Cassidy will be at an event I'm attending at the end of Feb...."

I agree.

I finished that myself last month, a very good read!

Char Sjgomzi wrote: "Just finished Fever House by Keith Rosson and Maeve Fly by C.J. Leede. Loved them both! My 1st Rosson and now I want to read them all."

I've become a big fan of Keith Rosson over the last few years. I get it!

Char Robert wrote: "Just getting started with When the Wolf Comes Home after hearing so many good things about it, and finding out that Nat Cassidy will be at an event I'm attending at the end of Feb...."

This settles my mind a bit, because I've been moving away from extreme horror over the last few years.

message 29: by Michael (new)

Michael Lefand Just finished Horns by Joe Hill by Joe Hill. I found it to be a little on the slow side, but still a very good read.

message 30: by Char (last edited Jan 20, 2026 06:59AM) (new)

Char I finished our group read By the Light of Dead Stars and enjoyed it. 4*

I'm now reading Lovecraft's Brood Nineteen Tales of Cosmic Horror by Ellen Datlow , edited by Ellen Datlow. This one is full of great authors. I've also started The Haunting of Sorrow's Leap by Chris Sorensen and I'm hoping to finsih Phil Fracassi's Gothic by Philip Fracassi today.

message 31: by WendyB (new)

WendyB Started Whistle
Appears to be about a haunted train set but I've just started reading so I have no idea where this might go

message 32: by Randy (new)

Randy Money Just finished Catriona Ward's Looking Glass Sound by Catriona Ward Looking Glass Sound. I found it intriguing, an exploration of story (who owns it, how it affects the people involved), its power and magic.

My 4-star review here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
Although, I'm not sure I say anything different from the above, I just use more words.

message 33: by Peter (new)

Peter Stead I just started The End by Adam Cosco. I had to buy it as I thought the prose was very "present" somehow. It's rare for the quality to stop me, but this did.

message 34: by Char (new)

Char WendyB wrote: "Started Whistle

I have that on hold at the library. I thought it looked really good.

I enjoyed that one too, Randy!

If you have other things to read, I'd say don't bother with Whistle. It's a mess and the writing is really amateur night stuff.
...and Alan thought my review of it was insightful. LOL

message 38: by Monica (new)

Monica Go Started Along the River of Flesh (Gone to See the River Man, #2) by Kristopher Triana

message 40: by Char (new)

Char I finished both Gothic by Philip Fracassi and The Haunting of Sorrow's Leap by Chris Sorensen and both were good.

I've started on Matt Dinniman's latest Operation Bounce House by Matt Dinniman and Peter Cline's latest on audio, narrated by the phenomenal Ray Porter: God's Junk Drawer by Peter Clines

message 41: by Robert (new)

Robert Mingee I like Peter Cline's stuff, and I love Ray Porter's narration, so I'll be curious to hear what you think of God's Junk Drawer

message 42: by Todd (new)

Todd Brown I've finished Diavola, The Cold House, Poverty, by America, The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel...reading Moral Ambition now and will be getting to At the Wolf's Table next!

message 43: by Ninnisha|Roberta (last edited 1 hour, 24 min ago) (new)

Ninnisha|Roberta I'm now reading The Haunting of Gillespie House The Haunting of Gillespie House by Darcy Coates

So far it's deliciously cozily spooky!

I also finished Carcoma by Yurena González Herrera . Not sure if it counts as horror but it was great.
