I haven’t read Varney’s work yet, but your review makes the series sound incredibly tempting. I love a mystery that isn’t afraid to get a little bleak before pulling everything together at the end. It’s helpful to know about the punctuation quirks too—always good to be prepared—but it sounds like the storytelling more than makes up for it. Thanks for the thoughtful review; you’ve definitely put this one on my radar.
There are currently 20 books in the series and I'm on about 11 or 12, but working my way through with each book being more and more exciting.
