One star, Paz? I was actually looking forward to reading this.

It didn't do anything for me. It became tedious to finish this book, but I'm in the big, big minority here.
I'd be interested to read your thoughts though.
If we go by the comparative analysis of both of ours book rating pattern, you and I have striking similarity in rating books so I won't be surprise if I follow your footsteps with this book.

Hah, it's been 2 years since I read this book, I still hate it with a burning passion. Glad to know, I'm not the only one who doesn't understand the hype!
"Seriously, can Patroclus be any more of a Bella?" - possible my favorite thing written in a book review, ever.

Hahah thanks! Sadly, I still stand by that statement.
i’m only half way through and i’ve had to push myself to get this far. i agree with every statement in this review. I don’t know if i can make myself finish it it or not.

I'm sorry to tell you, if I you feel that way halfway through it doesn't get better, I might say it's even more frustrating at the end :/
I’m 60% through the book and i came here looking for the 1 star reviews because I CANT BELIEVE how BORING and BLAND this book is, i mean you dont have to like the characters in order for them to be good characters, but in this case i dont like them AND they are bad
this is exactly how i feel about this book. thank you for putting my frustration into words. also i’m glad to see someone else enjoying Odysseus as much as i have!
And also this selfish Achilles killed HECTOR only because he killed his companion otherwise dunno how long this war would go on and on and onnnnn🙂.
I totally agree with you. Moreover, it took 10 YEARS to the writer to write this easy peasy teen drama. Probably, it turned tedious to her too to finish it!
it took me FOREVER to read this book. I wanted to like it sooo bad because it was huge on BookTok (reading community on TikTok) for a while. I rated it a little higher because I thought the ending was kind of cute, but the rest just ticked me off.
The comparison to Bella is spot on. I can't believe how flat all the characters felt and how it's only in the last 100 pages or so do we some hints of a plot existing!!
yeah, I feel the same - The comparison to Twilight hahahahahahahahaa it's actually so real. I didn't finish it, had to return it back to the library Maybe someday when I have nothing to read I'll give it another go. Thanks for your review, it confirmed for me what I was feeling. I was so surprised by all the great reviews also.
I am struggling myself, thank you for reaffirming that I am not the only one that feels this way about the book. Don’t know if I can finish it.
I have read the Iliad and as a person who is well versed in Greek mythology I can guarantee that this book is BAD!
“Can Patroclus be any more of a Bella?” is one of my favorite lines ever from a review, and so entirely on-point!
I tought there was something wrong with me for not likinf this book. Maybe i was missing something. But Thankyou. Thankyou for putting into words everything that i felt.
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who didn’t immediately, or fully, fall in love with this book. I had such high expectations; everyone has absolutely RAVED about it. But man, did it fall flat for me.
I agree with basically everything you said. The story was so slow and honestly, i almost abandoned this book. The only reason I continued was that everybody liked it and the summary was interesting.
Omg that bit where they are doing raids every day and Patroclus just goes and stands and watches Achilles fight what was that

Exactly!
My thoughts exactly. It just went on and on and on, and on. I kept speeding the audible narration up just to get it finished.
I completely agree, I am over 50% through this book. I am struggling to continue. I only picked it up because of the hype around it. But I have to disagree with everyone. It’s so slow and even halfway, I feel no connection with the characters. I think all the good talk about it, made me go in with such high hopes. I want to like it, I think but I just can’t however I am still going to finish the book and hoping it changes my mind.
Okay I would like to argue with the Bella bit. Bella just sat there numb and diving off friggin cliffs just to think about the dude who I can't even remember his name.
Patroclus spends like 7 years trying to deal with the fact that his lover will die, and how he should react to it. He thinks about it, and is prepared to go on. Does Bella do that? No. So maybe you don't like the book, but please please please do not tell me Patroclus is a Bella.
I agree, the main problem with this romance book is that there is no chemistry between the characters. It seems like that should be important for an epic love story.
I just started this book and I’m extremely bored too. The narrator is boring asf, too many big words, nothing makes sense and I can’t imagine the story
THANK YOU SO MUCH for putting everything I felt into words. I had been gaslit into thinking this was peak literature and started to honestly believe something was wrong with me when I couldn’t get into it.
OMG YES this is exactly how I felt like? The book was boring and everyone seems to like it so much? Thank you for putting this into words xx
I enjoyed the book but i like this review. I didn’t like Patroclus. He didn’t have much character developement and you’re right. When he is first introduced there’s this tension where he wants to prove that he is a prince and I liked that but it dies down and he is simply this guy who can’t fight and extremely fragile.
I'm about half-way through, put it down and still haven't been able to pick it back up. I was on a reading streak for a while and trying to get through this one has been ROUGH to say the least.
I think it's okay bc NO ONE should like smt that other people like! It is your thought about that book and everybidy should respect it. ;)
The twooooo things I will say about Achilles and his mom: he basically grew up without her. So when she starts coming around, he wants to please her. Hello mommy issues. I can also see him as a representation of cis-straight, white men who come from privilege and grow up never having to make hard choices. They just go with the flow and assume things are fine for everyone else. They lack critical thinking and empathy. Then, he’s forced into a situation where he is the victor and eats that sh*t up…to become what should be a villain but society regards as a hero. A savior. Intelligent. Amazing. However, I still didn’t like the book as I read it. This is more of a personal opinion to TRY and make it better. Lol
I felt like it was just very slow and too many characters to remember even though there was the back of the book with some characters I just wanted the book to end. It would pick up, then slow down all of a sudden. I wish we saw more of Pat and Achilles love and their relationship
I'm looking on reading it as I'm super into Greek mythology, is it really this bad bro??? Everyone else says there's huge quantities of emotion and plot twists, which makes me eager to read it
