Charles A book of similar origin is Another Great Day at Sea: Life Aboard the USS George H.W. Bush. It vividly reminded me of my shipboard service. Meanwhile it was annoyingly deficient in its analysis of a modern warship being a system of many diverse systems.

Nick Mclean I'm not surprised this is a good book. When Palin graduated from Monty Python and Ripping Yarns he became a adventure/travel show host. I credit some of his shows like Pole to Pole, Around the World in 80 Days for my lifelong curiosity about the world, and my interest in travel. In a world of Anthony Bourdain, Rick Steves, Bear Gyllis, and Stanley Tucci, among many others, I wonder how Palin's shows hold up. If the books impact is any indication, the answer is pretty well.

Donna I believe you would enjoy the Empire of the Blue Water by Stephan Talty. When I am finished with my epic journey in the Dune World I will add your book to my list.

Julie A good and interesting read, but just as you get absorbed into the of the story about the Erebus and her journeys you find yourself distracted by the authors travelogues.

message 9: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Puddle This guy begins by throwing Palin under the bus only to typo the ship's name in the first paragraph. Gold medal.
