Billy When I first read this, I had assumed it was his first book; the writing seemed so much simpler and lacked all the pizazz I loved about the First Law books

Yeah I get that! But I think it's still a great book. Just much simpler. Quite good for palate cleanser actually!

L.I.T. Tarassenko You're wrong...it's actually a five star book! ;) If you read carefully, you can tell this is actually the work of a seasoned author who wrote his other stuff first. The prose is so vivid and the plotting is so tight. Have you listened to any of the audiobook? Ben Elliot absolutely nails it, and his Grom-gil-Gorm is worth the price of admission alone!

Hahaha! Fair enough. I can agree with you on that! My point is that the narrative was certainly written with intention. With the targeted audience in mind. I did not listen to any of the audiobook, though!

Totally agree with you on that...though even for the YA audience it's pretty grim at times! I didn't like the third one of this series so much as it becomes so nihilistic...and not in a fun way, more like in a really depressing miserable way. On another note, will you be reading any of the SPFBO 11 books?

The nihilistic approach is probably why I enjoyed book 3 quite a lot. Take that! Those who says the books are too light-hearted. :p

I need to check the books on SPFBO 11. I need to read the champion of SPFBO 10 first! :D

Fair enough. If you do check out SPFBO11 eventually, please take a look at 'Fire and Lightning'. It's a YA fantasy and essentially a JRPG in novel form. Obviously understand if you don't read it given you have so many books and so little time, but please take a look to see if it tempts you!
