Loralee The review group is the most successful group for peer reviews on Goodreads. It hosts non-reciprocal reading/review rounds of ten authors with a variety of themes and genres, as well as ‘general’ rounds where any book is permitted, from non-fiction, to horror. When a round has ‘now forming’ in the title, there are places available, you can sign up. If it doesn’t, it’s full – look for another round or check back another time.

The Amazon rules state that authors/publishers are not allowed to specifically supply published books in return for reviews on Amazon. To comply with this rule, we don’t insist members review on Amazon, but we do insist that every participant in the round has the capacity to leave a review on their local Amazon store, so we all start with the same options.

The founding principle of the group is honest, non-reciprocal reviews, so please help maintain the integrity of the group by letting me know as you sign up if you have been reviewed by, or have reviewed another author in the group and do check back as the group fills to report any clashes. Usually places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

This is a 'General' round
All fiction/ non-fiction accepted. This means you may be required to read anything from a book about tax returns to horror/erotica and everything in between.

Please note it is always possible that the books you are assigned may contain material you find upsetting or offensive. If you can't commit to this, please do not sign up.

Now for the boring stuff, but please read it, it saves a lot of time if everyone is on the same wavelength.

Before signing up below with your Goodreads author and Goodreads book link in the thread below, please ensure that:

1. You have enough time to read and review 4 books within the 12 weeks of time allowed.

2. Your book is currently available for sale on Amazon (not pre-order) and it complies with the individual round theme, if there is one.

3. Your book is fit to be reviewed.
If it is not, due to editing or other issues, you risk poor reviews. This is your problem, not that of the reviewers or the groups. The number one error new authors make is not having their book beta read and edited, by non-family members.

4. You can submit reviews to Goodreads and Amazon.
Amazon allows only those people who have spent $50 in the last year to leave reviews in each of their stores. If you are unsure about your Amazon reviewer status, try posting a ‘test’ review before signing up. If you are unable to post reviews on Amazon, please do not sign up.

5. You can provide (and accept) at least PDF files.
You are not expected or required to buy the books you are allocated to review, but as this will give a ‘Verified Purchase’ review on Amazon, it is welcomed when you choose to do so. Many authors have books available via KU and others might provide smashwords coupons. Most authors can provide mobi and/or epub files directly by email. Please note: International Copyright laws apply. You cannot sell, or give away material you have received without the author’s express permission.

6. You have completed your reading if you are currently in another review round in this group. You can be involved in the ‘one for one’ list whilst you are in a round.

7. You have an author profile set up before you join.

8. Your Goodreads profile allows people to message you, i.e. your profile is not set to private.

9. You declare any relationship you have with another member in the round.
Amazon will not allow reviews from the same household on the same book or if you are an editor, relative or close friend of another member.

10. You agree to finish assigned books before leaving a review, that your reviews will be unbiased and honest, whatever the star rating, and based on your perception of the merits of the book not on whether you like the genre or not, and you will try to avoid ‘spoilers’. i.e. giving away the finale of a book. Please note the Review Group will back any reviewer's right to express their opinion about a book, but personal comments about a fellow author are against both Review Group and Goodreads policy. If you DNF* an assigned book, you run the risk of not being allowed into review rounds in the future.

11. You will not ask a fellow author to change a review of your book because you don’t agree with it.
If you think you have a legitimate concern, talk to the mod of your round, NOT the other author. Personal attacks, or pressurising other members WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and will result in you being blacklisted.

12. You declare all Goodreads accounts when signing up for rounds, including all pen names and additional user accounts, so that these can be checked by moderators and other group members to ensure that there are not previous review conflicts.

13. Books which include AI-generated writing are not permitted. Reviews may not be written by AI.

Please note:
*We all want reviews, it’s why we joined the group. It is bad taste to expect other people to review your book and then not do the same for other people in the group. People that DNF and/or don’t post reviews will find it difficult to get into a subsequent group.

It is not necessary to leave any kind of disclaimer in your review, but ultimately, it is up to individuals. Reviews that state you received a copy ‘in return’ for a review will probably be removed/not allowed by amazon.com. ‘I received a free copy from the author without an obligation to review’ would be more acceptable if you feel the need to add a disclaimer.

Your Goodreads details and the rounds you participate in may be recorded by the admin mod on a database. We do not retain details of email addresses etc.

Allocation is entirely random and there will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate personal preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I will do my best to fit everyone into the group they request, but occasionally, particularly in the case of our more prolific good standing members, I may have to decline a member request to fit the maximum number of people into a particular round. I will always endeavour to start another round as soon as possible with that member in mind.

It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available.

If you need anything clarified please ask, either by Goodreads personal message to me or on the thread below, before signing up. It’s a pain to have to keep rearranging the list because people haven’t read the above.

Your group moderator will be: Loralee Evans

Loralee A few things before we begin:

i. A few other rounds are also "Now Forming" as well; a Novella round here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
and a Clean round here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Since they formed before this round, I would recommend you join one of them rather than this one, if your book fits their criteria.

1. I can't add you until I check on your profile and affirm the setting 'Who Can Send Me Private Messages' is set to 'anyone'.

2. You have to list review conflicts before I can add you. Please don't rely on memory -- saying "I don't remember reviewing Author X" really doesn't do us any good.

To check if someone has reviewed you before, go to their profile, click the middle link under their name, and type your name into the box that says "Search and Add Books" -- it will show if they've reviewed you before.
To check if you've reviewed someone, do the same thing with their name in your profile.

3. We're not sure how the removal of Direct Messages will affect this group, or when/if Goodreads plans on going through with the change. This is something the mods are discussing, and we have a few options we're working through.

Please take note of these last 2 rules before you join:

12. You declare all Goodreads accounts when signing up for rounds, including all pen names and additional user accounts, so that these can be checked by moderators and other group members to ensure that there are not previous review conflicts.

13. Books which include AI-generated writing are not permitted. Reviews may not be written by AI.

If you used AI to write the text of your book, please do not join this review group.

Thomas Jr. I'd like to join this round with The Pilgrim.

message 4: by Seth (new)

Seth Hobbs https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Can I join with Black Powder, Black Heart?

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C...?

Thomas has reviewed me before, but not all of my books. Thanks!

message 5: by Loralee (last edited Jan 11, 2026 05:24AM) (new)

Loralee Welcome, Thomas and Seth! Thomas, you've just recently reviewed Felicity and the Raccoons, so I'll need to find something else to give you. I've got other books you haven't read. And Seth, I've reviewed Black Powder Black Heart, but from what I can see, it looks like you have other books I can review. As long as Thomas hasn't reviewed all of your books and you have another to give him, you should both fit.

Keep in mind, the Novella Round (45,000 words or fewer) or Clean (no on screen sex or gratuitous violence) need members, and started before this round.
Novella Round: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Clean Round: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 6: by Amber (last edited Jan 11, 2026 05:38AM) (new)

Amber Daulton May I join with Arresting Mason? I have alternates for those who need it.

I've read from Thomas before, but not his chosen book.

Seth and Loralee have read from me before, but not my chosen book.

My GR profile: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

Thanks!

message 7: by Loralee (new)

Loralee I can fit you, Amber! Welcome! But if your book is under 45,000 words (I believe it won't fit in the Clean round) might you consider joining Gene's group, here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... ?
It's only got two spots left to fill.
I'd love for you to stay, but if your book is 45,000 words or less, and you want to help Gene's group get going, that's okay, too.

message 8: by Nicola (new)

Nicola May I join this group with The Seventh Room, please? I have reviewed Seth's Black Powder, Black Heart. Thank you.

message 9: by Nicola (new)

Nicola I can offer TISIPHONE WALKING as an alternative. It's the second book of Ishtar's Gate Omnibus; The Seventh Room is book one.

message 10: by Amber (new)

Amber Daulton Thanks, Loralee. I already checked Gene's group, and there are too many conflicts. I haven't been able to join a group in months because of constant conflicts, so I'm happy to be a part of this one.

message 11: by Joseph (last edited Jan 11, 2026 01:53PM) (new)

Joseph Minart May I join with "The Tale of the Young Witch?" Loralee has seen "The Tale of the Young Witch." Seth read both of my books. I have read another book from Amber. I have not read or was read by Nicola. I have read another book from Thomas.

message 12: by Sebastian (new)

Sebastian Black I'd like to join with my novel "A Dangerous Game".
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/5...

I have no conflicts with the four authors currently listed.

message 13: by Evie (new)

Evie Rey Hello. I would like to request to join with my Novella "Grease Monkey."

message 14: by David (new)

David Gordon Hi Loralee. I just completed my last review in EK's group and am just waiting for Amazon to post. May I join with The Adventures of Moly: The Time Traveling Dog: Journey to Pompei?

https://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Mol...

No one in Goodreads has read it yet. I have read Seth before but not this book. I have read Thomas before but not the work advertised. I could read another one of yours. Amber has read me but not this one.

Please advise and take care.

message 15: by Loralee (last edited Jan 11, 2026 07:55PM) (new)

Loralee Nicola and Sebastian, it looks like I was able to fit you in!

Joseph, since Seth has read both of your books and you don't have another one, he'd need to be in your blind spot. But since I've reviewed you and him, I wouldn't be able to do that as it would put you in a position to review me, which we can't do.
If your book fits the criteria, you might try this round: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
or this round: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

David, I will be able to add you as soon as your Amazon review comes through and you've posted a link. Let me know as soon as it does! I am hopeful there will still be a spot open for you when it comes through. Amazon can take its sweet time sometimes.
If there isn't, I was just talking to Jennifer, and she might be changing her round to a General round, and you might be able to fit in there!

Evie, you'll need to do a couple of things before I can add you.
First, you'll need to post from your author profile. Right now, you're posting from a regular user profile.
This is your author profile: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

You will need to claim it and then post from it before you can join. Also, you'll need to set up your privacy settings so that you can send and receive messages.

Please go here: https://www.goodreads.com/user/edit?t...
scroll down a little until you see "Who Can Send Me Private Messages" and click on "anyone"

Scroll to the bottom, and then click "Save account settings"

Then when you've done all that, come back and post. I would suggest, if there are still two spots left, that you join Gene's Novella round, since it sounds like your book would fit in that category, and Gene needs a couple more people to get going. Here it is: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

message 16: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Driscoll Hi Loralee,
I would like to join this round with Hunting the Phoenix.
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
The only person on the list (so far) whose books I've reviewed is you. I have reviewed 3 of your books, including the one you are entering into this round, but I see you have other books. I have also reviewed one book by David A. Gordon, who may also be joining this round. No one on the list has reviewed any of my books.
I have no other Goodreads accounts.

Stjepan Cobets Hi Loralee,

The Dream of the Forest
I read your books, Seth and Sebastian read some of my books, but I don't think they've read this one.

Loralee Liudmila, Audrey, Stjepan, and Jane, it was a tight fit, but it looks like I was able to fit you.

David and Francis, I apologize I wasn't able to fit you. Here is another general round that Jennifer is moderating, and that needs new members I hope you go join it! The slots are wide open as of the writing of this message.

message 24: by Loralee (last edited Jan 12, 2026 09:17PM) (new)

Loralee Now, everyone, I need you to check to see if you are good to go.
Please do not rely on memory as this has caused trouble in the past.
And please check in by the 19th, otherwise I may have to open your spot again.

To avoid reciprocal reviews, I will need you to check to see if you have reviewed the four people above you.

Here is the list again for your convenience:
1. Nicola Belluomo| The Seventh Room
2. Seth Hobbs | Black Powder Black Heart
3. Sebastian Black| A Dangerous Game
4. Liudmila Brus | No Life but Immortality
5. Amber Daulton | Arresting Mason
6. Audrey Driscoll | Hunting the Phoenix
7. Stjepan Varesevac Cobets | The Dream of the Forest
8. Jane CR Reid| Mirror of Grace
9. Thomas A Burns Jr | The Pilgrim
10. Loralee Evans | Felicity and the Raccoons

To check for reciprocal reviews, go to your own profile. Click the middle link under your pictures, and in the box that says "Search and add books" type in the name of one of the people you are set to review. If you have not reviewed them, the next screen should say "You have no books matching [person's name]"
Do this with the all four of the people above you. If you have not reviewed any of them, then you are clear in that direction.

To see if any of the four people below you have reviewed you, go to each profile. Under their picture, click the middle link then type your name into the box that says "Search and add books".

If they haven't reviewed you, the next screen should say "[author] has no books matching [your name]. Repeat this with the other authors below you. If none of them have reviewed you, you are clear in that direction.

If you have not reviewed any of the four people above you, and none of the four people below you have reviewed you, you are good to go.
Once you have checked both above and below you and you are clear both ways, please come back here and say that you are "good to go!" or equivalent.

message 25: by Loralee (new)

Loralee Incidentally, I have checked, and I am good to go.

message 26: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Driscoll Hi Loralee,
With the list as it is right now, I am good to go.

message 28: by Liudmila (last edited Jan 13, 2026 02:38AM) (new)

Liudmila Brus I've reviewed another book by Jane CR Reid, but she hasn't reviewed any of mine.

message 29: by Nicola (new)

Nicola Hi, Loralee, I have reviewed Seth's book 'Black Powder, Black Heart,' which is the first book below me on the list.

message 30: by Seth (new)

Loralee Thank you Audrey, Jane, Liudmila, Nicola, Seth, Stjepan, and Thomas.

message 36: by Loralee (new)

Loralee Thanks, Sebastian. Now, we just need to hear from Amber and we should be ready to start.

Loralee Okay, we’re ready!

Please contact your people as soon as possible. Goodreads has said that they are ending the private messaging ability next week. After that happens, it will be harder to exchange emails in a safe way that will keep ne'er-do-wells from getting our emails off of a public thread like this. I will work with the other mods to come up with another way to (hopefully) safely share your email with the people who are to read you, and whom you are to read. But let's PM each other for now.

Please remember the commitment you are making to your fellow group members. If you pull out after the start date for any reason it is the other members who will be faced with the problem of finding a replacement, or missing out on reads/reviews, through no fault of their own. Please don’t ask the moderators to chase after replacements as we just don’t have the time.

It is the responsibility of the author to get their book to their readers in a format the reviewer can manage. Everyone must be able to provide and accept PDF. You may buy or borrow the books you are due to read if you wish, and I’m sure the author will appreciate the verified review, but IT IS NOT COMPULSORY. There are no set dates for the start of each round. You can each work at your own pace, within the limits of the round deadlines. You can finish as quickly as you like, provided you have read all your assigned books. (See rule #10.)

All reviews must be posted to GR. We also expect members to post on Amazon. When you have posted your reviews, please post the links to each of your reviews (not the book page) in this thread.
The mod of each round will record whether members have posted reviews on Amazon and for the good of all, members who persistently fail to post reviews or DNF reviews to Amazon, will find mods less than willing to add them to subsequent groups.

Postings to other sites are by agreement by both author and reviewer.

If I’ve missed something that results in you being asked to review someone who has already reviewed you, please let me know asap.

To exchange book files, my advice is to use PM to give email addresses to each other (save the chance of spammers getting your addresses from this open forum).

Setting up and modding these rounds is a labour of love, with a lot of emphasis on the ‘labour’. If you want to show appreciation for all the hard work we admins put in for the group, you could download one of our books as a ‘thank you’.

message 41: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Driscoll I have just purchased all 4 of the books I am to read. My book is available at Amazon and several other ebook stores. Anyone who is not able to purchase and needs a free copy, please message me asap.

Loralee GUIDE FOR THOSE NEW TO THESE ROUNDS.

Quick 'start-up' summary for anyone new who might be scratching their heads. You are reviewing the four books 'below' you on the list.

You can, of course, choose to buy any or all of the books or read the books on KU, if you are a subscriber and the books are available there. If you can buy it adds weight to your review as it gives the 'Verified Purchase' stamp on Amazon.

However, as not everyone can buy, you should PM the four people who will be reviewing you (the four above you on the original list of names) through their Goodreads author pages. Click on the down arrow beside the 'Follow Author' button under their picture and it opens a menu which will allow you to message them.
Ask what kind of file they would like or say you can only offer PDF.
Don't forget to ask where to send it so they can give you their email.
The four people who you are reviewing should be in touch with you in a similar way.

Please make sure you have exchanged ALL FOUR books - or have been assured by your reviewers they will buy your book or read it through KU - as soon as possible.

Some people read fast and it can be very frustrating to have to wait a long time to get hold of a book you are committed to review.

Don't forget to post the links to your reviews here so you can be signed off for them. When posting you Amazon links, please post a "clean link." A clean link on Amazon means you delete everything after and including the letters "ref" in the link.

The reason this is important is because everything after "ref" is linked to your personal Amazon account.

Please post your review to Goodreads, your own Amazon store and any other Amazon stores you might have access to as well.

I will be modding this round. Please PM me ongoing (as long as that option is available) with any issues. Thanks.
