Meursault is disappointed in the appearance of the guillotine. Not near as big as he envisioned. Slender. Standing flat on the ground. No pedestal. He shows no fear of death. Rather, from the beginning his lifeless uninspired observations appear to be a perp walk to oblivion. Scant emotion boils when the death row priest annoys him. But then the argument is over and Meursault returns to accepting another day as one more day before the lights go out forever. Sometimes the sky is pink. Sometimes the sky is green. Sometimes it's hot. Does he love? Probably not. Time to die. Hope there's a big nasty crowd. Goodbye. It was then that I realize that Camus spelled backwards is sumac.
