Goodreads should not have been acquired by Amazon. There's a functional disconnect. LPB

2 Images and external links will no longer be supported in messages
3 The way we write our reviews will be dictated.

Please reconsider the changes you are making to Goodreads. These updates affect far more than images and links — they directly affect people and the communities that rely on this platform.
Goodreads is not just a catalog of books. It is a living, social space where readers build friendships, run challenges, support authors, and form long-term communities. We thrive here because of the tools you are now removing.
Our community depends on features like direct messaging, images, and links to organize challenges, share badges, promote events, and communicate effectively. Buddy reads are imposible, and advance copy readers (ARCs) cannot be organized between authors and readers without privacy. It becomes increasingly difficult to maintain the engagement and connection that keeps readers coming back.
We have already begun making contingency plans to move our community elsewhere if these changes go forward. That is not what we want — we want to remain here — but we cannot continue to build and grow a community on a platform that steadily removes the tools we rely on.
Our members have supported Amazon for years through Kindle Unlimited, Audible, and book purchases that were influenced and driven by Goodreads communities. That support is not automatic — it exists because readers feel connected here. If those connections are dismantled, so is the loyalty that comes with them.
We urge you to listen to your users. Please protect the tools that make Goodreads a true community and not just a database. The future of this platform depends on whether you choose to support the readers who built it.
