I’ve read Shanghai Baby. I read it because it was banned in China. It was ok. Not shocking or “decadent.”

I figured that was the case. There are far more shocking and "decadent" books out there. This is not one of them. For sure it's because a Chinese woman is writing about a lifestyle that Chinese government doesn't approve. I'll read "Shanghai Baby" as well.
What an interesting review! You say the book is light, yet it also seems that it has a lot of serious aspects with your fascinating comparison to Anais Nin!
