yes, I didn't like the ending either...
Life has not always a happy ending, of course she deserved love and the children were very shelfish but I think this way the book is more realistic.
I was disappointed by the ending, too. I wanted her to fight for her beliefs, having come to an age where she could feel more self-confident and decide for herself. Also her kids' reaction was difficult to understand, but I suppose that way, the story was more realistic
I hated the ending so much it gave me gutted feeling, I had hope and it got crushed. It was fitting and coresponding with the story. I am rating 5 not despite the ending but with the ending. I would still rate 5 even with a happy end. This ending though will linger and will a probably make the book stay in my memory for a long time.
I hated the ending, too. But coming from a relatively same background, this is most probably the more realistic ending
