JaymeO Fantastic review! I agree that this was one of her worst books. Sorry it didn’t work for you either!

Nancy (Busy feeding 6 rescued baby bunnies) You’re not alone, I have other male GR friends who also read her books. Sorry this was such a disappointment, Joey.

Terrie Robinson Onward to better, Joey…

message 4: by Canadian Jen (new)

Canadian Jen I'm on the fence about this one. Appreciate your thoughts, Joey. I want the old Jewell back too!

message 5: by Amanda (new)

Amanda up North I'm experiencing a major suspense drought. This one has gone on and off my reading list. I'll leave it off! I haven't read all of Lisa Jewels backlist, I'll go for one of those instead.

Shelley's Book Nook I felt the same way, Joey. Great review and critiques of this one. 🤗💕

message 7: by NILTON (new)

NILTON TEIXEIRA Great review! I was more generous with my ratings, but I do agree with you.

Thank you JaymeO. Everyone is entitled to a clunker every now and then.

Thanks for the information— good to know she has other male fans out there.

Exactly.

I would avoid it unless you like very straightforward books about a serial philanderer and con artist. She is still an excellent writer in my opinion.

Joey R. Amanda wrote: "I'm experiencing a major suspense drought. This one has gone on and off my reading list. I'll leave it off! I haven't read all of Lisa Jewels backlist, I'll go for one of those instead."

Yes. Every other Jewell book I’ve read, I have thoroughly enjoyed. This one just wasn’t for me.

Thank you Shelley. It is good to see I wasn’t alone in my thoughts.

Thanks Nilton. She is such a good writer it is easier to overlook the fact the plot was so boring. Maybe her next one will be back up to her normal standards.

message 15: by Theresa (new)

Theresa Alan Ooh, I've been hearing a lot about this one and thinking of getting it. Thanks for your helpful review!

message 16: by Diana (new)

Diana I read this one a few weeks ago and it was my first Jewell. I thought maybe my expectations were too high because I always see high ratings for her books but your review confirms that I think I just started with the wrong Jewell!

Joey R. Theresa wrote: "Ooh, I've been hearing a lot about this one and thinking of getting it. Thanks for your helpful review!"

I hope you enjoy it if you read it. It just wasn’t my cup of tea,

This definitely wasn’t the Jewell I have come to love. Definitely give her another shot —all of her earlier works are really good.

message 19: by Debra (new)

Debra Great review, Joey! Shame it was disappointing. I hope you love your current book.
!

message 20: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Orlopp Thanks for your honest review. I greatly appreciate it. Jewell is one of my favorite authors, but this book doesn't sound like her typical book.

Shannon M (Canada) Loved your review, Joey. I do think that you are probably the only male who reads Lisa Jewell.

It definitely wasn’t for me. It was just a totally different style than her previous books. Maybe you will like it if you decide to give it a shot

😂😂I was sort of afraid of that, but I guess I must embrace my feminine side.

Bresila Nunez Oh no I was looking foward to reading this

You might still like it. According to my wife, my opinion is usually wrong.😂

message 27: by Tina (new)

Tina Oh dear there seems to be extreme views on this one. I'll lower my expectations. Thanks for your honest review!

I just read a 5 star review from someone whose opinion I value today. This one definitely has been all over the board with opinions. I still say that this book was not suspenseful, but I bet if I had ever dated someone that treated me like Nick treated these women, I would have loved it.

Norma ~ The Sisters Super review, Joey! I had mixed feelings about this one. I didn't think it was as engrossing as some of her other books. I was confused a lot. lol

That was my primary issue too. It was just not suspenseful and I couldn’t really get into it. I’m glad I’m not the only one because many people loved it

message 31: by David (new)

David New word for me, ‘paramour’, and questioning if you’re the only man who reads LJ is on point. I’ve felt that way, and like you, just keep keeping on with the good ones, like her.

It is good to find a “Brother in Jewell.” Unfortunately, this one wasn’t the best book for male bonding since the male characters were so reprehensible.

message 33: by Jayne (new)

Jayne Fabulous honest review, Joey. Although I agree with many ofour insightful comments, I am a sucker for "Dirty John" books, so I liked this one much better than you did. I hope you love your next one.

message 34: by Joey (new)

Joey R. I understand completely. If this is a subject you enjoy reading about, Nick is one of the dirtiest “Dirty Johns” ever. I am glad you enjoyed it and that I was able to move on to a different book. Lol.

message 35: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Richards Could not agree more. I felt like I was in Groundhog Day every time a new storyline of his affairs started. I kept thinking when will this nightmare end - and it did finally. With a silent flop.

I’m so glad somebody else felt the same way I did. “Groundhog Day’ is a great example of the storyline in this one. I mean surely there was one woman that didn’t melt and become Nick’s zombie when he glanced their way. Lol

message 37: by CiCi (new)

CiCi I’m only 10% on my audiobook and yet I’m already sensing that this is not a typical LJ book I’m used to! I’m glad to see I’m not the only one. Though I’ll try to finish this book.

I’ve read a couple of her books and I’m interested to hear your recommendations! So far, I’ve read Then She Was Gone, None of this is True, The Family Upstairs, The Night She Disappeared, and Watching You.

😂It looks like we have basically read all of the same Jewell books. (And, other than this one I’ve enjoyed them all). The only book I’ve read that you haven’t is “The Family Remains” which was a little harder to follow because of the amount of characters, but it was definitely worth reading.

message 39: by Amy (new)

Amy Hagberg Yikes, you sure didn’t like this one!

Julian Male Jewell reader here, too.

message 42: by Julie (new)

Julie I completely agree with your review!

Karen I hear you on this Joey. I stopped reading Lisa Jewell a while ago for the very reasons this book didn't work for you. Thank you for your honest and fair review. ☺️
