zunggg Green’s style matured into a very distinctive and, for me, very effective offshoot of modernism, characterised by an intense focus on dialogue and a hyper-realistic dialogue style. Nothing and Doting are the best examples of this; Concluding, a kind of unreliable murder mystery set in a girls’ school, is also great. Blindness was the last of his nine novels that I read; I’m glad it wasn’t my first.

Alan I like his second novel ‘Living’ best, then ‘Party Going’ and ‘Loving’. I find both ‘Nothing’ and ‘Doting’ a little tedious, although better than ‘Blindness’. I have a soft spot for ‘Concluding’. He is my favourite author, from my home town (Tewkesbury).
