I have a book scheduled for release on April 2, and indeed chose to make it DRM free. But do you know how it works for books that are already released for Kindle? I suppose authors may need to update their store settings if they wish to remove the DRM on those?
For older ebooks, authors are supposed to go to their KDP account and choose the option to make their book DRM Free.
When a title is DRM free, readers can download a PDF. The book is still copyrighted, but there is technically nothing stopping someone from redistributing the PDF.My feeling is, if I want to give away a book, I put it on my web site. If you're an author and do not have a web site, well, that's another issue.
Gary what devices and format can a buyer read your book on?I am a very picky reader. I don't read certain stories.
I have a Christian non-fiction title on Kindle and paperback, and a secular humor/satire title on Kindle only. (Both Kindle Unlimited.) Both DRM.Click my name above this post. The links are on my profile.

I have an older kindle and I love my kindle, but if it goes out, I will look for another ereader that fits my budget and it might not be another kindle or even a kobo and I would love to be able to read my purchased books on it.
Some readers like their books to in Epub or PDF format and they should be able to get that option, because they have purchased the ebook.
When an author recommend their ebook to me, one of the questions I will ask is if it's DRM Free on Amazon and if it's not, I will pass even if it's the type of book I read.
