Justine I’m with you on the sex scenes comment. I realized in the past year or so that I’ve become really uninterested in reading that because, you know, I want to get back to the actual story! I just read A Thpusand Words for Stranger and was like, OK, this is more like it for me. Chemistry, check, intimacy, check, then just carry on please 😂

Anne "And then just carry on please"
YES! Even in romance books, I tend to skimmmmmmmm as soon as the nipples get taut and the erections start popping.
Been there, done that. Next!

Holly Agree! Especially about Briggs dropping threads. Whats happening with Aidan and Joel? Are the Gray Lords and Uncle Mike just chilling along with that creepy little underhill girl ? What's Wulfe up to? I don't mind adding new characters I just wish she would keep them in future books more but now the cast is getting so big that characters who got whole books devoted to them don't even warrant a brief mention. But at the same time I still enjoy this series and the spin-off one.

YES! Where's Wulfe?! The lava monster dude, whatshisname! The original vampires are just...gone. Steffan getting a mention blew my mind.
I'm with you in that I've been reading this series too long to quit it now, but I wish she'd write some stand-alone spin-offs for all of these characters that she's introduced over the years.

message 5: by Kiran (new)

Kiran Okay you’ve upgraded this from a begrudging TBR to one I’m actually looking forward to! These last few Mercy books have been such a drag 😭

message 6: by Anne (new)

Anne They've been AWFUL. I waffled on whether or not to even get this one from the library, but it was a definite improvement in a lot of ways. I hope she continues to get back on track with the Mercy books.

message 7: by Silvia Andrito (new)

Silvia Andrito Wow, props to you for hanging in there. I gave them up a while ago.

message 8: by Anne (new)

Anne The last 3 books had me on the ropes, Silvia.

message 9: by Stina (new)

Stina … it almost seems like she’s setting the series up for another side series!

message 10: by Anne (new)

Anne Maybe? I wouldn't mind something about all the crazy old wolves!

message 11: by carol. (new)

carol. This: "I was really starting to get an ick over Mercy and Adam's cringe relationship, but now they're back to just being a good, solid urban fantasy couple."
Ditto with your reasons for fading to black in sex scenes. Agree that all of it is not her forte.

message 12: by Anne (new)

Anne I'm "over it" even with authors who do it well. But that's just because I'm a crusty bitch going through the change (werewolf, not menopause!), and I can just skim. Cringe sex scenes are harder to forgive, though.

message 13: by Elentarri (new)

Elentarri Good to know. I was getting bored. I don't even think I read the one before this.

message 14: by Anne (new)

Anne I didn't think it was perfect but it was such a step up from the last few books. <--imho

message 15: by Deanna (new)

Deanna Rittinger I enjoyed this one quite a lot. And I have another dangling plot thread to to toss in the pile: what is up with Samuel and Ariana? That is a lot of books strung together with casual touches of everyone speculating on THAT slice of the plot-pie!

message 16: by Cary (new)

Cary Exactly, she has been doing that a lot lately... And how about Samuel and Arianna??? There is too much she needs to address instead of creating more craziness
