It was a slow burn and they don't work for me.

Spot on review. I think it particularly failed as an audio experience.

I often struggle with the really slow burns as well. What I remember from reading Jane Harper in the past is her vivid imagery as I see you found with this book here as well. Better luck with your next book!

I think that is nice that even if you don't like the book you suggest curious folks check other reviews.
