I especially like your conclusion. I find this work makes possible for me thinking about issues which were obscured heretofore by the partisans on each side making use of the same words with different and unexplained definitions.
This review has caused me to reconsider whether I'll buy the book. I think this review deserves five stars.
At the tail end of the book, he discusses, extensively, the variations between these two models, which explains scenarios such as yours where conservative types are nurturing and liberals are tough. Your substitute language of authoritarian v. nurturant without the gender overtones works. A reason conservatives might dislike this book and Lakoff is because he pulls back the cover and exposes what's really going on.
