Judith E Having to go to class after your classmate lost money on you is not in the university recruitment pamphlet!

Jill H. Another great review, Brendan. The spread of sports gambling is certainly not helped by the advertisements during tv sports events which promote sites where you can bet. I am not against gambling necessarily but I am concerned that it is now too easy for those who can't afford it or are addicted to it.

Right?! I know I probably wouldn't have handled it well...

Thank you, Jill! And this is precisely the book for you. It goes over literally everything you just put in this comment. I bet (hehe) you'll really like it.

Jill H. I'll wager that it is 10 to 1 odds that I will. :>)

Fran Hawthorne This sounds like such an important expose. I really appreciate the examples you cite--Gambling destroys people in more ways, from little to big, than we realize.
Aren't there enough thrills in just watching a game? A live, unprogrammed event, where you don't know the result in advance -- unlike, oh, Supreme Court decisions these days?

You bring up a great point that Danny talks about in the book, Fran. There ISN'T enough thrills in just watching the game. Very often, if the game is a blowout, the only people watching are people have who bets placed. Therefore, the leagues want as many people betting as possible because it means better ratings!
