Wonderful review! I have my eye on this, and it will be my first Sanders novel as well. Good to know that this pays off by the end :D
It was very hard to get into, Rosh, but if you can make it through the first half, you can see how it gels.
Thanks Chris. His previous books are very popular and he’s won a Booker prize but somehow he’d eluded me too!
I really appreciate that you took the time to "pick apart" your thoughts (well put!) before posting your first reactions. This particular novel seems to evoke strong reactions both pro and con. It seems a bit too touchy-feely for my taste; I liked "Lincoln in the Bardo," which had more grounding along with the fascinating concept of the bardo.
