The MMC’s scent can’t truly be smelled in the first book due to the fact that he is almost always carrying the smell of brimstone (which you know why). Even if he showers, the brimstone still has a lingering undertone that tends to overpower anything else he might wear. His true scent does become more noticeable later on, and in Book Two, when the story moves into Grey Castle, much more is revealed about Luthren, his past, and the mysterious Gray family as a whole.
There is also a specific reason why Elowen is so naturally skilled at the sports. That explanation is intentionally held back and will be revealed later in the series, possibly in Book Three or Four.
The first book is really just the tip of the iceberg for this story. Across the next three books, the world, the history, and the characters expand significantly. Elowen learns something about herself that changes not only the course of her own life and the story she has been told, but also the history of Avalon itself.
After all, the most powerful lies are the ones we are raised to accept as truth.
If something doesn’t immediately make sense or feels unanswered, that is intentional on my part. I prefer to keep the reader slightly in the shadows and allow revelations to unfold gradually, rather than laying everything out all at once.
I’m glad you enjoyed reading my book, and thank you for taking the time to leave a review!
