Hello everyone,First of all, thank you for choosing The Color of Evil: as your October Book of the Month. It’s truly an honor to be part of your reading schedule, and I’m very much looking forward to our discussions.
A few words about the novel:
'The Color of Evil' is the first installment in the Bermejo & Roncero crime saga, set in Spain. The story begins with what seems like a routine disappearance in the mountains, but quickly evolves into a psychological duel between investigators and a meticulous killer who stages his crimes with disturbing symbolism.
Beyond the investigation itself, the novel explores moral ambiguity, personal demons, political pressure, and the psychological toll that violent crime leaves on those who pursue justice. The landscapes — from Madrid to remote natural settings — also play an important role in shaping the atmosphere of the story.
For readers who may be discovering my work for the first time: the series has recently been translated into English for international audiences, and each book can be read as a standalone, though the emotional arcs of the main characters deepen across the saga.
I’ll be here throughout the month and would love to discuss:
• Psychological vs. procedural elements in crime fiction
• The role of setting in thrillers
• Writing morally complex antagonists
• Differences (and similarities) between Spanish law enforcement and what we often see in US/UK crime fiction
And of course, any other questions you may have — about the book, the characters, or the writing process.
Thank you again, and I hope you enjoy entering Bermejo and Roncero’s world.
Warm regards,
Armando
