Rediscovered this gem 13 years after it was gifted from my German daughter-in-law. I assumed I had not read it at the gifting time, but Goodreads disavowed me. Noting I had gifted it 4 stars, perhaps it was worth a second coming. Not wrong. Deeply moving. Often sadly amusing. More often revealing.
