Laura Ruth Loomis The wording is interesting - not set in or about Italy, but "a book that makes you want to travel to Italy."

These days, any book about US politics would qualify.

Laura Ruth Loomis More seriously, my first thought was The Pairing by Casey McQuiston (also author of Red, White & Royal Blue). "The Pairing" is a second-chance romance with exes on the same food-and wine tour through Europe. Bonus: one of the characters is nonbinary.

So very true!

Acidic Quagga I ended up shortening this prompt to simply "A book that makes you want to travel."

Sasha Wolf I had the good fortune to go to Milan for work about ten years ago and enjoyed looking round the local history museum, which has lots of Roman artefacts. I'd love to go to Rome and see the classical remains there, so I'm probably going to read Mother of Rome.

Of books I've already read, the one that comes to mind is A Room with a View.

Stephanie Problematic Summer Romance is set in a Sicicilian villa, definitely made me want to go there!

message 8: by Joanna G (new)

Joanna G I think it's out of print, so might be hard to track down, but I enjoyed Vroom with a View, non-fiction about a guy travelling Northern Italy on a Vespa.

For me, based on the description I might go with The Enchanted April. And if reading it doesn't make me want to go there, then it will fit nicely into the book you were hoping would fill a prompt but doesn't slot!

message 9: by Eglė (new)

Eglė I have read The Enchanted April and can confirm it's a good choice.

Elizabeth Gilbert went to Italy as part of Eat, Pray, Love which could also count for new beginnings.

Think I'll read Recipe for Second Chances.

blueberry_wee Love & Gelato takes place in Florence.

message 11: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Kemme Saltwater by Katy Hays is a pretty good book set mostly in Capri. It's part murder mystery, part romance, but nothing overt

message 12: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea For those with a fantasy bend, The Mask of Mirrors and its sequels are set in a city HEAVILY inspired by Venice; reading this definitely made me want to visit there (again).

message 13: by Keisha (new)

Keisha Frantom Something Like Fate by Amy Lea (romance)

message 14: by Ellen (new)

Ellen Marcolongo I'm going to read The Talented Mr. Ripley (Ripley, #1) by Patricia Highsmith by Patricia Highsmith.

message 15: by Bea (new)

Bea Hmm. I have never wanted to visit Italy. Now Scotland, that is another topic.

message 16: by LeahS (new)

LeahS I have two books set in Italy for ATY: There Will Be Bodies and Diary of a Tuscan Bookshop: A Memoir. I'll probably use the latter for this!

Being in Scotland on a rainy day, is when I would rather be in Italy!

message 17: by Denise (new)

Denise Not sure what I want to read for this. I've been to Italy, twice, it's a great country. I'll see if I can get into The Mask of Mirrors

message 18: by Angie (new)

Angie I stumbled upon One Italian Summer: Across the World and Back in Search of the Good Life by Pip Williams last night, in case it piques anyone's interest.

message 19: by Erin (new)

Erin This year I read two books that would work for this:
It Had to Be Him
The Pairing

message 20: by Emma (new)

Emma I mean, it doesn’t take much for me to want to travel to Italy. The mere mention of pizza will do it! But I think I’ll choose an Eleanor Ferrante novel that I haven’t read - I know that they’re quite gritty and often bleak, but the picture she paints of Napoli makes me yearn to visit there and walk those streets

I laughed and nearly choked on the cookie I was eating lmao

message 22: by Liza (new)

Liza I don't need a book to want to go to Italy

message 23: by Denise (new)

Denise I don't know that it will make me want to travel there (I am a domestic travel type) but I want to read One Italian Summer so here it shall be slotted

message 24: by Minmin (new)

Minmin Does anyone think the Count of Monte Cristo would work for this? I was hoping to get to it this year, and I believe Montecristo is a real island in Italy?

message 25: by Sasha (new)

Sasha Wolf Minmin wrote: "Does anyone think the Count of Monte Cristo would work for this? I was hoping to get to it this year, and I believe Montecristo is a real island in Italy?"

It is a real Italian island, and the novel is partially set there, so I think it works!

Laura Ruth Loomis I read A Sicilian Romance, an 18th-century Gothic novel by Ann Radcliffe.
