To explain, I originally wrote the story when I was 15/16, so at the time, high school 18-year-olds seemed wise and old enough for everything. When it came time to rewrite the story, I wasn't able to change that age or the setting, cause I've since written a whole lot of books that sprouted from this first book, and it would just mess everything up big time to change their age/setting.
That being said, in one of the future books, the whole 18, high-level adult thing is a major plot point that deals with the age thing. I plan to rewrite all the following stories, so hopefully that'll eventually be published too.
