Audrey Driscoll I rather enjoy grumpy reviews, Chuck. In fact, a bit of grumpiness is OK even when the reviewer really likes a book. Just like a few flaws in a character make them more interesting.

Hi Audrey,
I think as writers ourselves, we know how the sausage is made, and so we may be more aware of all the decisions authors make in constructing their stories. In the case of these two book, I took exception to a decision or two they made, though I don't think most readers would even notice them, since they were minor details and served to drive the stories along. As for me, as long as the books are well received and my criticisms will run off their backs like water off a duck's, I see no harm in airing my nitpicking complaints. I fear, I find it fun.
