I won't pretend it doesn't sting a little, not because of the rating, but because How to Break a Girl isn't fictional, but rather fictionalized. I distributed my own lived experiences among the three protagonists. What you shrugged off as "so what?" is exactly what happened to me, including how my cousin and a white male murderer sexually assaulted me, one at the age of 6, the other at the age of 16.
