David Hobby Dear Jenny,

Thank you so much for your very well-considered review. Your point about the differences between how women and men are able to navigate strange cities as photographers is well-taken.

As you note, the subject did occur to me. In fact, while writing the book I was often discussing that topic with my wife. And trying to take her perspective into account while also writing from my own lived experience.

I acknowledge the concerns you were expressing. Mostly in the general/abstract sense, as (fortunately) Hoan Kiem Lake is almost comically safe around dawn. But that is certainly not true everywhere. And your comment made me realize that the time of day / Hoan Kiem walk section could benefit from that inclusion. And to point out that, while this particular time and place is very safe, in other instances you might want to consult local knowledge and use your best judgement.

One of the main reasons I chose to do this book as KDP/POD is that it could be a living document. Several times since its initial publication I have edited and/or augmented it to include information that readers have mentioned. Most of these thoughts were from people writing in. But yours was the first feedback sufficient to warrant an update that I had seen in a review.

On the final page of the book I include acknowledgements that credit readers who have contributed to the book’s ongoing improvement. With your permission, I would love to include your name in the next revised edition. You can reach me at the email listed on the book’s copyright page.

Thank you again,
David Hobby
