One of the most uncomfortable ideas in Authoritarian Drift in the United States is that normalization isn’t agreement, it’s adaptation.

What’s something that would have shocked you a few years ago that now barely registers? Did you notice that shift happening, or only in hindsight?

It’s things like migrants being deported fast with limited review, or people getting detained and it barely makes a dent in the news cycle.

If that happened under Obama, Bush, or Clinton, it would have been wall-to-wall coverage and a national crisis. now it feels like just another headline that comes and goes.
