Dierregi Ferdinando Magellano, as he's known in Italy (or Fernão de Magalhães, in the original form 😄). He's quite well known in Italy, even if he was Portuguese - but the Italians don't mind as much as the Spanish 😉

John Scheck It's just strange for me that my Spanish friends (and their kids whom I interrogate like war criminals on the matter) know so little about him. I've never seen a statue of him anywhere. Cristóbal Colón was Genovese, but he's revered here, so why the hate for the Portuguese guy?

Dierregi You mean Cristoforo Colombo 😉. His birth house is right in the center of town, in Genova.

As for "Magellano", as far as I know (which honestly isn't much), there's little love left between the Spanish and the Portuguese

John Scheck The Spanish don't hate Italians, unless they play football.

Dierregi 😄 as far as I hear - and it's not very far - Italians are losing big time.
