this is well written review! thank you for being honest i just know i am going to hate this with that many TikTok phrases. hope your next read is better!
Unfortunately I feel like this is one of the main issues with TikTok and the book community, lately all I’m feeling in romance novels is tropes and the abundance of niche Taylor Swift references that I don’t understand but somehow the male leads do 😭😭
Im about halfway through and this is exactly how im feeling🫠 i fear im not gonna start to enjoy it more as i keep reading
girl not the rhysand references 😭 okay it says u read this twice if u actually did and that's not a glitch or smthn, my respect levels for u r very high bcz these references r horrific 😭 tbh even managing to finish this book is impressive
as someone who judges the book by the cover, i KNEW i didn't wanna read this bcz the cover is lowkey not it i'm sorry
honestly i get it and i’m not even close to finished. the tiktok/millenial slang is SO annoying!! i think she needs to take a break from writing because her earlier books were actually amazing. sorry this disappointed you. this review is SO good though, i love how organized it is!
YES ! tbh i’m suck at 12% and i can already say i’m not liking AT ALL 😒 the writing sucks compared to her other books and by 8% I don’t even know anymore how many times the mmc was compared to rhysand 💀 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
great review! i haven't read anything by abby jimenez yet but i have been seeing A LOT of mixed reviews on this one 🫠
unearned and unbalanced! 🙌🏻 yes the massive sacrifices and for what! thank you for articulating so well!
For me it was the white men are the most privileged class on the earth comment. That and just about every male character in the book was written as an asshole. This may just be the last book of hers I read. And I've read them all! So completely unnecessary to add racist content to the book. I've also read comments mentioning an Omar comment about him going back to his motherland. I'm guessing it was removed in the final cut, because it's not in my Kindle version.
I've read all her others and genuinely enjoyed them. This one? I'm reading it just so I don't DNF. The writing is way worse than her usual.
You said it so well. Everything that bothers me too. And all this hate against white men... I just can't stand it any more. I did read all her books, but this will be the last one.
And don’t get me fucking started on the countless Rhysand references..that pissed me off like girl, you did not just disrespect my man like that lmao 🤣🤣
Ouch you guys are really harsh. I disagree completely with this review and all the others comments agreeing with the OP. To each his own I guess.

This isn't harsh - this is simply my opinion of the book. I'm not sure what you expected when you purposefully clicked to read a 1 ★ review, but you're right - each to their own.
Could not agree more with everything in this review! You hit the nail on the head of everything that bothered me about this one.
Agree with everything you wrote--the worm thing was just weird, the relationship was terribly one-sided (Samantha was a user and Xavier was desperate), and the angst just went on and on to the point where at 75% I was exhausted, but the anguish didn't end until 94% !!! If I listened in audio I think I would have wanted to shoot myself.
YES! I couldn't figure out exactly what was bothering me with this story, but you hit the nail on the head. They needed some sort of relationship that preceded their first date. Her throwing out that she was moving and him jumping through hoop after hoop to make it work felt insane to me. Their relationship completely stressed me out. If they'd been friends or even acquaintances who had been flirting for a while it would have made some kind of sense.
This review is so valid and I LOVE Abby's books 😭 I've read all her works and SYRM was such a let down for these exact same reasons. Love the point you made about how it could have been better if Xavier and Samantha had history instead of the introduction they were given. 100% would've made a world of difference and given the story a better foundation. On another note, please do not let this book deter you from Abby's other works. My personal favorite is Part of Your World and the other two books in that series were very good as well. Yours Truly is very deserving of its praise in my opinion. Anyway, great review. Very well put.
Definitely agree. I usually like Abbys books and the more I read the book the more I hated it. And I felt like the way everything feel together was unrealistic too. I like happy endings that workout but this one felt like a stretch.
I listened to this book, narrators were excellent, but the repetitive language in this book was so irritating to me. If I had to hear one more thing about memory, parallel lines, Rhysland,👉🏼🦻
Completely agree with this review. I’m not on TikTok but the lines in this book were so cringe-worthy I’m not surprised they come from the app. This book was a total waste of time.
Let's not forget about the use of the word "VILF"..... as in a veterinarian version of DILF as if that's a thing...?
Her earlier work is so much better. I'm not sure what happened. Stretched too thin with deadlines? It feels like a first draft.
Also I still don't know who Rhysand is or what he looks/acts like. Just that he's book tok famous.
Thank you for this! You took the words right out of my brain re: the way the romance was written. "Unearned" is the perfect word.
This review is spot on! I almost didn’t finish the book, but I powered through. The whole storyline was exhausting, unrealistic, and corny. It was like the book tried too hard to be relatable to every 20 year old TikTok user and forgot to have a realistic and interesting plot along the way.
I didn't mind the family stuff, but whole-heartedly agree with your assessment of why the romance didn't work.
