“"Ronan fucking Washburne is kissing my Elysia. Not mine. I remind myself." - r.y literally wrote this in xadens pov chapter in fourtwing.
“'You're looking a little pale." "Twenty-five years," Sirena muses, her tone light, "and I don't think we've ever seen you jealous before. Or lose control of your shadows." A teasing smile curves her lips. Jealous. The word makes my jaw lock hard enough to hurt. That's precisely what this burning, corrosive pressure in my chest is.. jealousy." - literally the same from the same pov xaden chapter between Garrick and xaden
“'"'Please, we've both seen the way you look at her." "Like I want to kill her?" A smirk pulls at my lips, though the expression feels wrong. "No, like you want to fuck-" "Don't finish that sentence when I'm in the mood to hit people."" - same here
MMC calling FMC “elysia darling” - SJM Rhys much
But of course everyone’s allowed their own opinion about the book. :)
I totally get your examples, but none of these are exact stollen conversations/dialogue and most are used in many other books.
“Ronan fucking Washburne is kissing my Elysia/Dain fucking Aetos is kissing my violet.” As much as it could be seen as inspired by R.Y, Rebecca wasn’t the first to write this, and definitely won’t be the last. It’s a widely known saying written in various different ways just like “fuck it” moments “who touched you/did this to you” “I will always find you/there is nowhere you could go that I wouldn’t find you” “I would burn the world for you” etc. Dialogue like this just comes with a jealous and possessive MMC’s. If you were writing a jealous MMC, wouldn’t you write something similar? Most authors do.
The second one again could be seen as inspired, but the only thing exactly the same is the “you’re looking a little” part. R.Y wrote “you’re looking a little green. Relax, he’s just lacing her back up.” The rest of the dialogue and scenario is completely different between these two books. (Especially if you look at the scenario and dialogue side by side)
And with the third one, it’s a popular saying and trope, it is said in many books, especially dark romance and fantasy. Rebecca wasn’t the first to use that dialogue and evidently won’t be the last.
“Darling” is very very regularly used (along with love, my love, sweetheart, little …. Etc) the only reason it got associated with SJM is because ACOTAR blew up and went viral. M.B.Goodwin has also stated previously she chose “darling” as a generic nickname before changing it to “Moonfire” (when Elysia and Kaden got to know eachother on a personal level) because herself and her partner call eachother darling, so it was a personal choice. She hasn’t read ACOTAR, so it’s impossible for the author to have “stolen” the nickname from SJM. If nicknames could only be used once by one author, there would be none left 🤭
I get your views, I really do but this book has a completely different plot, characters, vibes and scenes. At most your examples are inspired by other fantasy books, but certainly not stollen since they are all popular sayings in fantasy and any enemies to lovers/possessive MMC/touch her and die trope.
You’re allowed to not like the book, everyone enjoys different things. But try not to accuse authors of stealing content when the content you’re basing it off is widely used due to genres and tropes. It’s very damaging. 🫶🏼
To add, if it was full on chapters throughout the whole book straight up, word for word stollen from other authors/books then go ahead, accuse away! I would too 😁 but snippets of dialogue here and there which are similar but in a completely different scenario and context is definitely not stollen content.
Definitely not! I just really enjoyed this book, and I love to support indie authors where I can. I know the previous about the author as she is very interactive and kind to her readers on social media. ☺️
Author here! I am only commenting as I got curious over the amount of comments, sue me! :D Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy bonds of fate, but thank you for giving it a chance regardless! To clarify over the similar dialogue here and there, I haven't read fourth wing in I'd say three years or more, so unfortunately I hadn't noticed any similarities, i like to collect special editions but i don't tend to reread books. I do however, write what I enjoy reading, and sometimes due to this similar dialogue to other books can appear (whether I have read them or not). So, I do rely heavily on my beta and proof readers, professional or otherwise, to point these similarities out so i can rewrite and edit/adjust as needed. I will certainly take this on though for book two, and make sure to be much more vigilant with any possible similarities to other books dialogue. Hopefully, i will have the available funds for book two to hire a real editor who can help with this. Again though, thank you for giving it a chance, I do really appreciate your feedback and will certainly take it on board for the rest of the series :)
Martyna darling, you need to calm down with the accusations and touch some grass, really. Did you sue everyone named "Martyna" ? How about all those expressions used by people that are on trend? Or categorized by state or country, similar words that we say the same keeping in mind we speak different languages? I'm curious! The book is part of a specific genre, so you will find similarities, I've read all the books you've mentioned, but didn't noticed the things you've mentioned AT ALL. Did you want her to make up a language so that nothing is the same as what you've ever read? My GOD, you're absurd! We say the same things to express the same feelings. Leaving a 1 star review just because of this is just insane to me, but you do you boo. Maybe you just want to bash people that have achieved more than you in live, maybe not, i'm not a psychologist, but you do seem to need some help. Get it! I don't need a reply from you don't worry, I can see you have the audacity to give one. Have a day you deserve! Sorry if I used words you already read before, I'm just that plagiarist maybe.
Deni, couldn’t agree more with you on this. All these sayings are so common and regularly used, there are genres and tropes for a reason… because this is what us book girls enjoy reading. I actually looked into all these similar sentences that Martyna has so lovely pointed out and the comparisons side by side may be similar ideas but they are expressed very differently due to writing style. Ideas are not protected by copyright, only the expressions (an authors voice/style)
M.G wrote: Ronan fucking Washburne is kissing my Elysia.
Not mine, I remind myself.
Still, that doesn’t stop the knot in my stomach from unravelling and spreading like poison in my system. My fingers clench around the stem of my glass, a crack spidering through the crystal. Shadows writhe around me, pinning my feet to the ground to stop myself from marching over there and feeding Washburne my fist.
R.Y wrote: Dain fucking aetos has his mouth on my violence.
Not mine. But that doesn't stop the knot in my stomach from unfurling, spreading like acid into my system, burning through my chest and making it hard to draw breath until that snot-nosed asswipe lifts his head.
M.G wrote: Thane flat-out laughs. “You’re looking a little pale.”
“Twenty-five years,” Sirena muses, her tone light, “and I don’t think we’ve ever seen you jealous before. Or lose control of your shadows.” A teasing smile curves her lips.
Jealous. The word makes my jaw lock hard enough to hurt. That’s precisely what this burning, corrosive pressure in my chest is… jealousy. I hate that she has brought this out of me.
R.Y wrote: "You're looking a little green." Garrick flat-out laughs, and I force air in and out of my
lungs as Sorrengail steps back from Aetos.
He grins down at her, but... wait. She isn't returning the sentiment. No, Sorrengail looks
like she just accidentally kissed her cousin and can't retreat fast enough. Talk about awkward.
"In twenty years, I don't think I've ever seen you jealous before. This is amazing."
Garrick claps his hand on my shoulder.
Jealous. That's exactly what this hot, corrosive feeling is—jealousy.
M.G wrote: He scoffs in response. “Please, we’ve both seen the way you look at her.”
“Like I want to kill her?” A smirk pulls at my lips, though the expression feels wrong.
“No, like you want to fuck—”
“Don’t finish that sentence when I’m in the mood to hit people.”
R.Y wrote: "It's hard to miss the way you look at her," he says, lowering his voice.
"Like I want to kill her?" I retort, spotting an interesting match in Claw Section.
"Or fu—“
"Don't finish that sentence when I'm in the mood to hit people."
(This is the most similar one because of the hitting people at the end of the dialogue, but the expression and scene is completely different. So MAYBE inspired, but not stollen)
So again, I reiterate that for argues sake, maybe these scenes were inspired by R.Y but they definitely weren’t stollen. The scenes/chapters are completely different, the expression is completely different and most importantly… this dialogue is WIDLEY used. I’ve read these kind of scenes in soooo many books, Rebecca didn’t create this dialogue, many authors use it. Where does she think Rebecca herself got the inspiration from? Probably the countless books she has read. Inspiration exists, and similar dialogue happens. What’s most important is you can clearly distinguish these authors voices from one another. Personally, I couldn’t give a single fuck if authors write similar dialogue, ultimately these kind of scenes are my favourite to read, and EVEN if they were carbon copies of each-other (which they clearly aren’t), I’d still have enjoyed the book, because the plot is unlike one I’ve ever read before. So, I rest my case 😂
Millie, if you see this, don’t panic girl. So many romantasy books have these dialogue snippets just expressed differently. Haters will be haters, but I know for certain I love your book, and so do all the countless five star reviews 🫶🏼
Appreciate you both having my corner, it’s truly an honour to have such lovely readers 🫶🏼 as I’m an indie author I have a bit more freedom with editing my manuscript. So, I’m updating here since it’s the topic of conversation that I have made a few adjustments to avoid this issue in the future, as it was not my intention for them to be similar. These particular snippets of dialogue are now more my voice and shouldn't be associated with R.Y anymore.
Update one: Fury simmers beneath my skin.
Ronan is kissing her... Ronan fucking Washburne is kissing my Elysia.
A bitter, poisonous heat pumps through me, uncoiling in my gut until it’s all I can do to stop my shadows from lashing out. My fingers clench around the stem of my glass, a crack webbing through the crystal as I fight the urge to march over there and feed Washburne my fist.
Update two: Thane lets out a sharp laugh that sets my teeth on edge. “You look like you’re going to be sick.”
“This is a first,” Sirena adds, a teasing glint in her eyes.
“Seeing you off your game the last few weeks has been unsettling enough, but you losing control of your shadows?” She shakes her head with a soft laugh, “I never thought we’d see the day that happened.”
My jaw locks hard enough to hurt as an unwelcome, primal feeling courses through my system. A corrosive burn flooding my veins from Ronan kissing what is mine.
“You’re actually jealous, aren’t you?” Thane says, voice dropping low. “Oh, this is priceless. The great Kaden Reinheart is finally human.”
Jealousy.
That’s what this burning, suffocating pressure in my chest is. It’s a foul, crushing weight I never intended to experience.
“Maybe we should carve it into the Concordium wall as a historic moment.” Thane laughs, “This is a damn miracle.” He reaches out, shoving my shoulder playfully.
Update three: He scoffs in response. “Please, we’ve both seen the way you look at her.”
“Like I want to kill her?” A smirk pulls at my lips, though the expression feels wrong.
“No, like you want to fuck—”
“Don’t finish that sentence,” I force out between gritted teeth, “I’m just pissed enough that I might actually hurt you.”
This keeps my original vibes and my descriptive voice, and hopefully it eradicates any similarities to Rebecca’s dragon tale ☺️

I don't recall reading exact copies of conversations/dialogue anywhere from the books you have mentioned, and I have nearly every Bonds of Fate scene/chapter memorised by this point, because I simply love this book. Some scenes you could argue were inspired by such fantasy books, but there are no exact conversations or scenes stolen. And on that note, many authors take inspiration from each other, that's part of writing. This is certainly not a fanfic either, nor does it give the idea that it is, the plot, world, characters and writing style are all vastly different to the books you have mentioned. To play devils advocate, I have put some examples below.
Plots
Fourth wing: A young woman trained to be a scribe is sent into the riders quadrant by her mother, she is put through deadly training, bonds with dragons and uncovers that Venin are real and not myth.
ACOTAR: A human woman is kidnapped by a high lord fae of the spring court, she saves the fae realm and becomes a fae herself.
Bonds of Fate: A high mage is forced into a soulbond with the kingdoms warrior in hopes they are the key to finding a cure for the plague, they are trained to control their soulbond and trained for war.
The plots are massively different, and in my personal opinion, I've never read a book with the same plot as Bonds of Fate. I have read books, however, with similar plots to fourth wing and ACOTAR.
The worlds
Fourth wing: A kingdom described to have ancient buildings, split by provinces and wards to separate Navarre from the rest of the land, humans that can bond dragons.
ACOTAR: A fae realm made up of different courts where the weather/time is different in each. Magical creatures, fae and mortal lands split from a wall of magic.
Bonds of Fate: A kingdom made up of lush greenery, illuminous/magical plants and glowing animals. Humans, mages and high mages co exist and fae are a folklore. Wards keep the kingdom safe from the border creatures.
Again, the worldbuilding is vastly different, and dare I say it... Bonds of Fate has much more world building and immersive language than Fourth wing or ACOTAR.
FMC's
Violet: Small, slender, brown hair that turns silver, pale blue eyes, has a condition called EDs, bonds two dragons, wields lightening.
Feyre: Tall, slender, brown hair, blue-grey eyes, mortal until she is turned fae in which she then receives enhanced abilities.
Elysia: Small, slender, dark blue hair that turns light at the ends, pale blue eyes with flecks of silver, a high mage who wields fire and telekinesis, eventually finds out she is half fae.
MMC's
Xaden: Tall, dark skinned, brown hair, onyx eyes, scar over his eye, third year rider, bonded to one dragon, wields shadows.
Rhysand: Tall, fair skin, black hair, violet eyes, a high lord fae, wields shadows, controls minds and has a beast form.
Kaden: Tall, tanned skin, black hair, green and blue heterochromia eyes, graduated Celestrian warrior, high mage who wields shadows, an artist.
Yes all the MMC's wield shadows, but the way they use and control their power variates from each book, it's also just a popular and loved trope. The FMC's are also unique from each other, including their personalities.
The only similarities I really see to your mentioned books above is an academy setting similar to Fourth wing, and fae beings like in ACOTAR. But, many books also have these, so it's hardly a huge deal. I'd also like to mention, even the fae are completely different in Bonds of Fate. Fae in this book quite literally have glowing skin and eyes, sharp canines, advances speed, strength and hearing and their abilities are based on bloodlines (common fae/moonborn fae).
As I said before, you are completely entitled to your opinion, but I'd advise to really look into the differences in plot, worlds, characters and overall writing style when leaving a review like this on an indie authors book, because it can be extremely damaging. I'm not sure if you have ever written or published a book, but its a long and tiring process, and the fact this author was able to write such a compelling book, edit it and publish to the level it's at without any professional help is absolutely astonishing.
Overall, yes this book has a few small similarities to other books out there, but all fantasy books do, it's a genre, they will be similar in places. And ultimately, the tropes are what readers love. Also, side note, if you go onto the authors tiktok, you'll see that she's mentioned she hasn't actually read ACOTAR, so any similarities you're seeing to that series are purely coincidental.
I'm not arguing per say, this book won't be for everyone! But I wanted to clear up some details for those who see this review and instantly get a damaged opinion of the book before even reading it.
Over than that, I hope you have a lovely day :)
