Damn fine review, Kurt. That “puzzling conundrum regarding Laura Palmer” just sold me the book and a Season 1 rewatch (my favorite of the lot). The owls approve.

Hi Debbie! Remember, the owls are not what they seem. I hope you like it if you do read it. It's a quick read. There is more info on Donna, Shelly, Annie and Audrey to name a few that I didn't mention above. I agree with you about Season 1, it's my favorite too. I'm going to look for the first dossier. It has mixed reviews but it looks pretty good to me.
I think I'll have to rewatch season 3 at some point, especially now that it's in a sense the last Lynch "film" we'll ever have. I remember there being great moments but feeling like I only grasped about 10% of it. In retrospect, it was probably brilliant.

When I saw it there was a lot that made no sense to me. It's so far removed from Season 1 and Season 2 that, at first, I was very frustrated with it. It grew on me though and by the end of it, I did like it a lot. I felt the same with Inland Empire. Yeah, it's sad to know there will be no more David Lynch movies to experience.
I think I've seen Inland Empire twice, and...I don't think I can bring myself to try a third time. But it does seem of a piece with season 3 of Twin Peaks just in terms of how narratively uncompromising he had become by that point. I mean, not that he was ever a crowd-pleaser, but it's much easier to follow, say, Blue Velvet. And I definitely respect that lack of compromise, it just demands a lot of the viewer. Next time I try season 3, I'll be ready for the challenge.
