Alyssa I noticed what you did about the writing style. To me it honestly felt like AI was used to write parts of the book because it used some of those familiar AI writing patterns. Such a shame.

Honestly, I had the same thought. I didn't want to make any accusations I can't prove, especially because it's possible she just has a very formulaic writing style, but it definitely read that way to me too.

Amber Lee Being that I know the editor, I can promise you that none of this was AI. I realize that not everyone will like this book and they're entitled to their own opinions. However I do feel the need to point out when things aren't AI and people assume that it is.
Just like Bronte and Shakespeare have been said to be AI when put through the AI program. Which is a same being that Miranda simply writes with proper syntax.
I also want to note that this author is very anti-AI and refuses to work with anyone that uses it.

As you can see in my reply, I did not assume it was AI. I specifically said I wasn't willing to make that accusation. Which is why AI is not mentioned in any way in my actual review. I didn't put her through any AI program, I just said I didn't like the prose and specified why.

Once again, never assumed it was AI—quite the opposite. I deliberately avoided making that claim, and when someone else did on my review, I continued to give the author the benefit of the doubt. But whether or not AI was used, it remains true that that's how it read to me.

Brooke H I completely agree re the bait and switch! The same thing seems like it’s going to happen in the Silver Elite Series (by Dani Francis)😵‍💫

Aww nooo are you serious? ☹️ I've been dying to read that book! I was waiting for it to be fully released so I could binge but I was sooo on the verge of caving LOL

I really hope she sticks with Cross 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Holly I'm so tired of the bait and switch now. It's becoming so frequent and obvious that i'm losing any and all interest in book one romantic plots because they feel totally futile.

Ugh I completely agree. I hate it soooo much. And I was so excited about this book, I'm STILL disappointed ☹️

Mary Ellen I didn’t mind the writing style but after their s*x scene I was like “well that wasn’t….nice to read about after all that build up…?” And then bingo - it’s because he’s garbage.

message 10: by Leessah (new)

Leessah I agree about the formulaic writing style, it’s quite off putting! I get what that other person meant too, AI does use that style a lot (obviously noone is saying this Author uses AI but the structure is similar.) You said pretty much what I was thinking!!

I knowwww! And I hate that he turned out that way, there was definitely potential

Exactly! And it's such a shame too because the premise is so compelling.

Megan I hate those fragmented sentences - I recently read a book written like that and it was so incredibly awful.
If you want an actual witchy enemies to lovers you can try reading The Crimson Moth - that one seriously delivered :)

Gabriela (vacay semi ia) I just read two books with the bait and switch love interest situation and it’s getting so old 😭 it sounds like this story has a few things that keep it from being a compelling read. Great review 🫶🏼

I know girl I hate them too. Here and there is fine but every other paragraph is insufferable.

Also I looveee The Crimson Moth it was too good (and possibly set my expectations way too high for this one)

Thank you! ♡ And yeah, I'm so sick of being played with like this 😭

Kam Those sentences are AI, I’ve been clocking it on a lot of new work this year… unfortunately. Even the super hyped up Liv Zander new ones.. it’s either the edit they use or some of the help with writing the idea into a book. It’s not illegal or bad, it disappoints me though because I expect kids in school to write their own essays…

Idk I never want to make such a serious accusation like that without proof, but I will say I was really disappointed that it read that way. Because even if it's not AI, it's such a formulaic writing style that truly wasn't enjoyable, which sucks because the premise had so much promise
