The 3rd paragraph of your review of Melville's Moby Dick would seem to anticipate the likes of an twice-elected, unhinged demagogue like Donald Trump.
Let us hope that America doesn't end up like the Pequod. 😅
I'll have to ask my husband what happened to Pequod. He found the book very difficult to decipher.
I'm afraid that we may end up going half to Canada & half back to Mexico. The good thing is that we are no longer an empire. That means A LOT less wars AND a chance for the American people to benefit from the taxes we pay.
Your comment made me think of Pericles' quote, "Empires are dangerous things to possess for, once you have them, it is very difficult to let them go." It does seem like we are living through the last days of the American empire.
