I’m looking for a comprehensive book on Hamilton’s ideas. Would this be a good place to look? Or are there better sources?

For Hamilton's ideas? Steve Knott's books are a bit shorter. Brookhiser's short bio is also very good. Chernow will get you there but it's quite long.

I would go with Brookhiser and Chernow

Knott I find a mixed bag occasionally, but his Hamilton and Jefferson stuff is better than the past century

Ideally you should try to get 2-3 books on every Founding Father right up to Civil War
