I'm glad you liked it, Tim. Here's an interesting anecdote about the writing. "Pistoleer" was published in 2022, but I had written it more than a decade earlier. A friend of mine read my manuscript and told me I ought to read Craig Johnson's books on Walt Longmire. His books are about a modern Western sheriff, while mine is about a modern Eastern sheriff. I could see we shared some similarities. But one was too close for comfort. I had named my dispatcher "Ruby," just like Mr. Johnson had done in his books. So, my Ruby was forced into a name change to "Maxie."
