I no longer remember when I read this book for the first time, maybe 1979-80, nor how many times I've read it. For sure, I've never forgotten it. The perfect book for a someone like me, an intellectual of the standard college-prof variety who began his life in his mother's fundamentalist church, absorbing the King James Bible.
