Atharv Mishra “Many great men lost because their ideas became a cage for their mind.”
I have been thinking about how ideas, which once helped us understand the world, can later prevent us from seeing it clearly. Intelligence and knowledge do not always keep us free. Sometimes they help us build stronger mental walls.
Ideas are necessary, but when they stop evolving, they begin to limit us. Holding onto an old truth just because it once felt revolutionary can quietly turn into a form of imprisonment.
At what point does a belief stop guiding us and start confining us?
Would love to hear other views on this.

Thanks for the recommendation.
I have already done a great deal of research on this topic before writing in my book, "REFLECTION. VISION. TRANSPARENCY.", before writing about that topic in my book.
If you like this idea you can read my book.

Dr. Jasmine Hi Atharv,

it seems to me that all our beliefs are " cages". We are conditioned by our family, society we live in, what is happening in our countries etc.

Ideally, each adult analyses his life/himself, and then his beliefs and values become " considered"- which lets him out of the cage :)

Papaphilly You might want to consider reading The Righteous Mind: Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion. It is a in depth look at how people use their gut instead of thinking.

Hi Atharv,

To me, a belief or an idea can be a guide if it makes us more open, deeper, and more awake to life. But if it closes us off to new truths, new questions, and our own inner change, then it slowly stops being a guide and becomes a mental wall.

Maybe the problem is not the ideas themselves, but the way we relate to them. When an idea first comes to us, it may open a door. It may wake us from an old sleep and help us see the world more clearly. But if we later carry that idea not as a living search, but as a fixed identity that must be protected, then the same idea can begin to limit us.

As we change, and as our consciousness expands, the truth we are able to see also deepens. A belief is alive if it makes us more humble, more curious, more open, and more honest. But if it brings us to the point of saying, “Now I know,” that is where the danger begins. Because often, the moment we say “I know,” we stop seeing.

Maybe the clearest sign that a belief has become a cage is this: it no longer makes us ask questions; it only makes us defend.

"Maybe the clearest sign that a belief has become a cage is this: it no longer makes us ask questions; it only makes us defend"- dear Cagla, what a beautiful thought!

The world changes incessantly, and so do we, so, perhaps? it then follows that every belief that is worth keeping gets adjusted, however slightly, all the time :)

Yes i completely agree with you. That's why I say that one should always adopt better ideas. We should never stop to question our ideas and beliefs. For if they are universal they will never fail and if they fail then they are not universal.
Also Cagla if you liked this idea then i would prefer you to read my book, REFLECTION. VISION. TRANSPARENCY.: A Thought on Human Nature and Society, where i have written about more ideas like this. And if someday you read it then a short honest review will be very helpful.

Jasmine I think that we as humans are inherently apprehensive of changes even if they are small. I argue that we should not obsess over a belief or an idea and constantly try to find a better belief or idea. We are apprehensive of change but the world always changes so we shouldn't be apprehensive of any type of change but try to accept it if the change is reasonable and better.
If this idea is to your liking then i would prefer you to read my book, REFLECTION. VISION. TRANSPARENCY.: A Thought on Human Nature and Society, where i have written abt more ideas like this.
Also if you get time to read it then a short and honest review will be very helpful.
