I do think connection to characters can be very subjective. I intentionally wrote this as a lighter, gentler historical romance, with the emotional development unfolding quietly through relationships and character interactions rather than heavier drama or intense conflict.
That style may feel subtle to some readers, but it was very much an intentional approach for this story.
