I once knew someone who struggled with severe mental health issues. Because the medication’s side effects were so hard on her, she often avoided taking it — and on those days, she’d lose hours of time. Entire pieces of her day would simply vanish.
That experience stayed with me. So I built a fictional version of her and started asking the “what ifs.”
What if she were accused of something terrible?
What if she genuinely couldn’t remember where she was?
What if the moments she did remember offered no alibi?
And what if, under all that pressure, her mind finally fractured?
Those questions became the foundation of the story
