Jennifer The review group is the most successful group for peer reviews on Goodreads. It hosts non-reciprocal reading/review rounds of ten authors with a variety of themes and genres, as well as ‘general’ rounds where any book is permitted, from non-fiction to horror. When a round has ‘now forming’ in the title, there are places available; you can sign up. If it doesn’t, it’s full – look for another round or check back another time.

The Amazon rules state that authors/publishers are not allowed to specifically supply published books in return for reviews on Amazon. To comply with this rule, we don’t insist members review on Amazon, but we do insist that every participant in the round has the capacity to leave a review on their local Amazon store, so we all start with the same options.

The founding principle of the group is honest, non-reciprocal reviews, so please help maintain the integrity of the group by letting me know, as soon as you sign up, if you have been reviewed by or have reviewed another author in the group. Do check back as the group fills to report any clashes that might be missed. Usually, spots in the group are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Communication & Contact Details
As Goodreads has disabled private messaging, participation in this round requires providing a contact email address through my website contact form and mentioning "Review Group 396" prior to me adding you to the list: https://writetodreamreality.com/conta.... This email will be used to resolve round-related issues and, only where necessary, may be shared with other participants solely for the purpose of exchanging review copies. Email addresses must not be used for marketing or shared more widely by round participants. The form with all collected email addresses will be deleted once the round has closed. If you are not comfortable with this, please do not sign up for the round.

Any participant who knowingly uses the email addresses for marketing or who is caught selling them will be blacklisted from the group.

If you wish to join but you’re uncomfortable with sharing email addresses, you’re encouraged to establish a new free Gmail or Yahoo account for you to use exclusively for Review Group. Please refer to the links below to do this:
https://support.google.com/mail/answe...
https://login.yahoo.com/account/create

This is a Clean round.

Fiction and non-fiction, adult and children's books are acceptable. This means you may be required to read anything from a non-fiction book about how to make a flint arrowhead or Dharma romance novels or a memoir about living a Christian life or a young adult book about teens with superpowers and everything in between.

No explicit violence, explicit sexual situations, or explicit language.

Infrequent uses of words like "damn" and "hell" and milder words are acceptable, but nothing stronger than that.

Sex can be implied in a romantic scene that draws the curtains, but otherwise nothing more racy than a kiss.

Violence can happen or be implied but no detailed descriptions of its impact e.g. someone can be shot or punched on the jaw, but no gratuitous blood splatters or gore.

-- Do Not sign up for a Clean review round if your book does not follow the rules above. --

If you have to wonder if an aspect of your book could be considered offensive, this is probably not the group for you!

Please note that being a “Clean” review round does not guarantee that the books you read will not have situations you find immoral, upsetting, or distasteful. It is solely limited by the above rules. If you can't commit to this, please do not sign up.

Now for the boring stuff, but please read it, it saves a lot of time if everyone is on the same wavelength.

Before signing up below with your Goodreads author and Goodreads book link in the thread below, please ensure that:

1. You have enough time to read and review 4 books within the 12 weeks allowed.

2. Your book is currently available for sale on Amazon (not pre-order), and it complies with the individual round theme, if there is one.

3. Your book is written in English, or you can provide an English translation, and it is fit to be reviewed.
If it is not fit to be reviewed, due to editing or other issues, you risk poor reviews. This is your responsibility, and not that of the reviewers or the moderators. The number one error new authors make is not having their book beta-read and edited by non-family members.

4. You can submit reviews to Goodreads and Amazon.
Amazon allows only those people who have spent $50 in the last year to leave reviews in each of their stores. If you are unsure about your Amazon reviewer status, try posting a ‘test’ review before signing up. If you are unable to post reviews on Amazon, please do not sign up.

5. You can provide (and accept) at least PDF files.
You are not expected or required to buy the books you are allocated to review, but as this will give a ‘Verified Purchase’ review on Amazon, it is welcomed when you choose to do so. Many authors have books available via KU. Other authors might provide Smashwords coupons. Most authors can provide mobi, kpf, and/or epub files directly by email. Please note: International copyright laws apply. You cannot sell or give away material you have received without the author’s express permission.

6. You have completed your reading and been released by the moderator if you are currently in another review round in this group. You can be involved in the ‘one for one’ list while you are in a round.

7. You have claimed your Goodreads' author profile before you join.

8. You agree to provide a contact email address.
This is now required in order to participate in a round and replaces the previous requirement for Goodreads private messaging. As stated above, emails you receive for other participants must not be sold or used for marketing purposes.

9. You declare any relationship you have with another member in the round.
Amazon will not allow reviews from the same household for the same book. They also do not allow reviews if you are an editor, relative, or close friend of another member.

10. You agree to finish the books assigned to you before leaving a review, that your reviews will be unbiased and honest, whatever the star rating, and that you will try to avoid ‘spoilers’ (i.e. giving away the finale of a book).
Please note the Review Group will back any reviewer's right to express their opinion about a book, but personal comments about a fellow author in reviews and forum posts are against both Review Group and Goodreads' policy. If you DNF (DO NOT FINISH) an assigned book, you run the risk of not being allowed into review rounds in the future.

11. You will not ask a fellow author to change a review of your book because you don’t agree with it.
Complaining about reviews publicly is unprofessional. If you think you have a legitimate concern that violates our policies, email the moderator of your round, NOT the other author. Personal attacks or pressuring other members WILL NOT BE TOLERATED and will result in you being blacklisted.

12. You declare all Goodreads accounts when signing up for rounds, including all pen names and additional user accounts, so that these can be checked by moderators and other group members to ensure that there are no review conflicts.

13. Books that include AI-generated writing are not permitted. Reviews may not be written by AI.

Please note:
We all want reviews; it’s why we joined the group. It is bad taste to expect other people to review your book and then not to do the same for other people in the group. People who DNF and/or who don’t post reviews will find it difficult to get into a subsequent group.

It is not necessary to leave any kind of disclaimer in your review, but ultimately, it is up to individuals. Reviews that state you received a copy ‘in return’ for a review will probably be removed/not allowed by Amazon.com. ‘I received a free copy from the author without an obligation to review’ would be more acceptable if you feel the need to add a disclaimer.

Your Goodreads details and the rounds you participate in may be recorded by the admin mod on a database. We do not retain details of email addresses, etc., so you will need to resubmit your information for every group.

Allocation is entirely random. There will NOT be any rearranging of the listing to accommodate personal preference. The ONLY circumstance in which you may duck out of giving a review is if YOU provide a stand-in reviewer.

The only way this group can function is if we trust each other to behave honourably. And it IS perfectly possible to give a fair-minded review of a text that does not coincide with our normal choice of reading matter. If you need a few hints/tips, please see this thread:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I will do my best to fit everyone into the group, but occasionally, particularly in the case of our more prolific good-standing members, I may have to decline a member request to fit the maximum number of people into this round. I will always endeavour to start another round as soon as possible with that member in mind.

It is permissible to review an author more than once if a different book is available.
If you need anything clarified, please ask in this thread before signing up. You can also contact me via the form on my website, which is linked in this thread.

Your group moderator will be:
Jennifer Reinoehl

Jennifer As you're aware, we no longer have the Direct Message feature on Goodreads. The mods have discussed the best way to go forward, and have determined that we will need an email address from everyone, which will be collected in an online form.

(Please refer to the revised Rule 8 above.)

If you’d like to join this round, please remember, that I can’t add you to the list until I have the link to your Goodreads book and you have contacted me through my website: https://writetodreamreality.com/conta... with the e-mail address you would like to use. You must do this even if you have joined one of my groups before because I do not retain information about these groups once they begin. Other moderators have different ways of collecting contact information that are most convenient for them. For the sake of everyone's privacy, we're asking participants to give their email address on the form and not in the actual thread where it's visible to everyone and everything online.

Please note: When signing up, as well as posting your Goodreads author, Goodreads book link, and submitting your email address using the form, please post any review conflicts.

Please, don’t rely on your memory for determining conflicts.

How do you find out your conflicts? Go to your Reviews page and type in the name of other authors in the thread. That will tell you if you've read them in the past. Then go to the profile of other authors in the thread, scroll down a bit and click on their "My Books" page, this time searching for your name. That will tell you if they have read you in the past.

Also: If you write under a pen name or have additional Goodreads profiles, then you'll have to follow these instructions for every pen name or additional Goodreads profile.

Jennifer Once the group starts: Considering Amazon’s recent delay in posting reviews (it has taken more than three weeks to see some appear in previous groups), the moderators have been discussing a way to address the issue. We can’t do anything about Amazon’s policies, but if we have sufficient proof that you submitted a review to Amazon, we would like for you to be “checked off” and free to join a new review thread.

We’re asking everyone to take a screenshot of the Amazon page that appears when you post a review. It’s the page that says “Thank you for reviewing…” In that screenshot, please also include the bottom of the screen, as the right-hand corner will verify the date.

This page only appears right after you post the review, so you’ll have to be mindful about catching it in time.

If the Amazon review isn’t up in two weeks, you can email the screenshot to the moderator and be cleared for the next round. If the review does post after that, we’d still appreciate you posting the link in that group’s review thread (as always, please post Amazon links in a new post instead of editing a previous post).

Can you please link the book and your profile to ensure I get the right one? When you type into the comment box, there is a menu you can click at the top of it that says "add book/author." By typing your name into the author tab of that menu, you can pick which profile is yours and add it to your response. The same works on the book tab of that menu. I also need you to send me your e-mail through my contact form https://writetodreamreality.com/conta... so it isn't posted in this public forum.

Loralee Jennifer, I posted my info on your website. I hope I did it correctly. I'm currently modding Group 394, but just posted links to my fourth review. Again, I've reviewed both S.D. Brown and you. I've reviewed a lot of S.D.'s books, but I believe there are a few more I haven't reviewed.

Here is the link to my book, Raccoons and Rabbit Holes: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Yes, I have your information.

I checked S.D./Spike Brown's books. It seems like you haven't reviewed all of them in the Every Number Counts series or I Escaped the Gold Rush Fever.

It looks like you have only reviewed two of mine, so you can choose any of the others.

Jennifer Mary Hughes Mary E. Hughes contacted me through my website with the information to join this group. I am reposting it here.

Book to review: A Mid-Century Childhood: Growing Up in Toronto's Lawrence Park

It looks as if she has reviewed S.D.'s and Loralee's books, but there are still many other books by S.D. and Loralee that she could review.

message 13: by Loralee (new)

Loralee I can't review I Escaped the Gold Rush Fever because Scott Peters is her co-author on that book, and he has reviewed me.

Are THREE SAILS THE SEA or FOUR OUT THE DOOR: Numbers at Play okay?

message 15: by Loralee (new)

Loralee I think I could. S.D. would need to say for sure. I could also read one of her Sherlock Holmes books under Spike Brown.

message 16: by Kris (new)

Kris Maddox Hi! I’d love to join with my first book, *Memories of a Free Range Life*. It’s an honest, humorous memoir about starting over abroad, parenting, chaos, culture shock, and building a very unfiltered life far from the original plan.

It’s also my very first published book, so I’m especially excited (and nervous!) to start getting some first reader reviews and feedback.

It’s available on Kindle Unlimited here:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GXN6RR5X

Thanks so much for creating the group and opportunity for indie authors!

I have no clashses/ conflicts to review all other books :)

Loralee Jennifer wrote: "Loralee wrote: "Have I read 4 Out The Door yet? I don't think I have."

With S.D., there is more than one profile. Some books that show up under one profile don't show up under another, and some books I've read show up read under one profile, and not another. For example, on this profile, https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

it shows that I haven't read Who Pea'd the Bed? but this profile https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
it shows that I have. So I have to be careful and check both to see what I haven't reviewed. From my memory, I have not read 4 Out the Door.

S.D. would be able to say for sure, but I can't see anywhere that I've reviewed 4 Out the Door.

message 24: by S.D. (new)

S.D. That's weird, I didn't think I had more than one profile... you haven't reviewed 3 ( with pirates) OR 4 (with forest animals).

message 25: by Loralee (new)

Loralee I did review 3 Sails the Sea here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

message 26: by S.D. (new)

S.D. Then Four Out the Door it is.

message 27: by Loralee (new)

Loralee I’ve read so many of your lovely books! I think that’s the last one of yours I haven’t read!

Jennifer S.D. wrote: "That's weird, I didn't think I had more than one profile... you haven't reviewed 3 ( with pirates) OR 4 (with forest animals)."

If this: https://www.goodreads.com/author/show... is not a profile you created and just a different author who is using the same name, I recommend you leave a new topic with the Librarians here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

Ask them to remove the books from that author's page that are yours and add the ones not accredited to your profile. I think you have to give them links for both your page and the other author's page, as well as links for each of the books, and clearly state which ones to remove/add. They sometimes ignore requests like this from people who are not the actual author, or I would do it myself. You do have to check back when it's done and note that in the post title, but it might prevent conflicts or doubled-up reviews in future groups.

Thanks for the info, I have sent in the request to have my books removed .

To join a reading round, your book must already be published. If you have another clean book that you would like to join with, please contact me through my website (see the first post) so I can get your e-mail, and post here any conflicts you have with any of the other members who have already joined, so I can make sure the people you are reviewing haven't already reviewed you and vice versa.

I'm sorry, G.J., but I can't find a way to fit you into this one because I have reviewed you, and both Loralee and S.D. have reviewed me. I would step out, but I think another mod is going to start a new General round sometime in the next week that would be easier for you to join than me, since I'm leading this one.
