Here’s my fast-paced epic fantasy. Not romantasy, not even remotely cozy. It’s a bit controversial.

It’s set in a dual-kingdom world. The main characters are in love, so there’s a strong romantic backbone, but the world is bigger than them and the stakes are real — a moving darkness threatens to consume the Citadel they live in, and war breaks out with the other kingdom. This is only Volume 1, so the ending is… kind of heartbreaking. But I’d genuinely love to know how you feel about it.

Derrick Sedgley is seventeen when he finds an injured German pilot hiding in a barn in the Essex countryside. The pilot asks for one thing: do not report me until morning. One more hour of daylight. A chance to breathe free air before whatever comes next.
Derrick agrees. Then, as dawn breaks and the fever worsens, he makes a different choice.
The pilot's last words, on the stretcher, are an accusation: "You promised me one more hour of daylight."
That moment drives Derrick across occupied France, into Germany, into the world of SOE special operations, and all the way to the Pyrenees, where the reckoning finally comes.
I grew up in Essex, not far from where Derrick grows up in the book. These are my fields, my skies. Writing this book felt like coming home.
